I'm interested in making my own MFT-style top and I'm curious what others have used to bore the holes?

I'm plan to use the LR 32 system for alignment but I'm not sure what bit to use for the holes. IIRC, there are posts that say the Festool 20mm bit leaves the holes over-sized, that there are issues with this method or that method, etc...

So, I just wanted to poll those that have made their own MFT-style top to see what worked for them.  [smile]

Thanks!

Hi,

A good moment for me to sign up and make my first post!

I am doing the same thing. 20mm is correct for all of the festool dogs so it is the right thing to use. You are right, there are a number of bench dogs that are 19mm, basically, you cannot use both.

Festool do a 20mm boring bit which I have recently received but yet to use. I had to buy the LR32 system including a rail and the 20mm bit, I have got all of these now, however, I am now waiting for some rail dogs to arrive, its been a week and I am eager to get going.

Basically you do the first row of holes using the guides and then use the rail dogs to move forward a row at a time. Should be easy enough, will let you know once i have my rail dogs...
