Domino 700 for large gate?

Balcony job might interest the OP. All DF 700 multiple 14mm Sipo with polyurethane glue. This would traditionally be done with pegged mortice and tenon but here I am using the Domino. The frames were installed in October and the joints have not moved at all and I mean not at all even with all the rain/snow and crazy sunny days of 20 degrees so I am very pleased with it so far. Time will tell but I am confident the joints will hold for years no problem.

A joint in shear or compression is not mechanically 'overly challenging".
And I see none of balcony joints in tension.

A gate usually has a joint in tension of in compression which runs diagonally.
It is is in compression, then the top bar is in tension.
At least 1 joint is in compression.
A floating peg in tension is only glue strong, whereas a through tenon is either as strong as the tenon, or the shearing of the dowel, or the compression of the mortice.

All the other shear and compression joints in a gate are trivial.

Yeah that's all true Holmz. It was just an example of DF 700 exterior work that I happen to be working on at the moment.Even using traditional pegged mortice and tenon the stressed joints would be better supported with a diagonal brace although the jockey wheel will help a lot. It really depends on the frame design.

I used a DF700 on a gate.
I know it was not the idea way [embarassed] , but I wanted it done and wanted to see if it worked...
The boss still needs to paint it, so I will see how it goes.

The other side needs new gates as well.
I am interested in the Jockey wheel. Is there a link that shows it?
I have a jocket wheel deal off of a trailer, but I think it needs a spring as the ground is not level.

Thank you for all the replies, sorry for late response.
Whilst the traditional method would no doubt be stronger for the top rail I've done it with dominos and used some decorative square headed nails through the Dominos.
The gate will be braced and with the wheel hopefully will work ok.
I'll try and post a picture or two when complete (if not too embarrassing)!
