My domino 500, the fence has a "scraping" feel to it. I am wondering if this is normal? it clicks into the pre-set stops ok, it just feels like its scraping when I adjust it.

I hit a nail the other day :( so now I am forced to make a trip to  my dealer :D dang it all! gotta buy a new #8 cutter.  (I pass three Festool dealers on the way home from work)

I can't blame anyone either! it was a nail that I put in. 18 gauge. the domino still seems to cut fine, but the sound has smoothed out - I figure the bit is trashed.  I am still amazed at the dead on accuracy of the mortises, the boards line up exactly. I didn't get such accuracy the first while I was using the domino, but after reading here about the correct technique, things came in line quickly.

Mine doesn't have any scraping sound - I suspect a little light lubricant would make the difference.  There are not too many contact points.

I hit a pocket screw the other day and totally trashed my #6 cutter.  Hurts to shell out $36 bucks - as with you it was my fault as I put it in.  I need to learn not to center everything!

I was thinking the same thing today when I used my domino. A little lubricant did the trick for me.

During the day also occurred the incident you described, but for me it was not a nail ..

I went to my local Festool dealer, and Festool will send me a new one. [smile] right or wrong, but it was the first time I used my 5mm cutter so maybe it was actually a bad weld..

great reading on this forum! thanks [smile]

good idea about the lube, I'll put some on. I guess I am pleased that I'm not the only carpenter that cuts nails! LOL

edit: that turned out to be a $48 nail.... guess who's gonna be way more careful :D
