I am building a crib for our first grandbaby. I plan to use my Domino to join the slats to the top and bottom rails for the crib sides and ends.  The slats are 3/4" by 1 7/8" by 28" with the side rails 7/8" by 2" by 51 1/4".  The end rails are 30". The material is hard maple and the spacing between slats is 1 7/8". What size dominoes should I use, please remember this is the first Grandbaby!?

Standard rule of thumb is to use a domino thats 1/3 the thickness of the material, so 6mm will work fine.  I do use 5mm a lot in 3/4 material as well.

I would probably say 6mm since it is solid hardwood and 5mm if you were using 3/4" plywood.

Also, don't sand the maple too much or it will not take stain properly if you are planning on staining it at all.

Congrats on the first Grandbaby...

Best,
