Domino Pins ... Gone...

Hi,

I think their has been some discussion about the metal, round pins on the festool domino routers... Well, I just had mine delivered today (along with an MFT/3) and the pins are now small black plastic shims. It also comes with a spare set and they are adjustable if required. Mine was spot on when delivered enabling 25mm MDF to be joined perfectly.

Paul.

They could have had little match sticks to be honest, as long as they worked, I'd be pretty happy. If anything having these plastic 'flat' shims might even be better as they will have a lesser tendency to slip - especially when doing framing work.

I did also notice the extractor hose attachment is tighter than a scotch-man's wallet...

I haven't read Rick's manual yet on the new Domino / fence but if the pins are adjustable left to right which alleviates the preivous issue some had with Domino's not lining up on long boards with the narrow setting then the new pins may be worth it.

I like my Domino the way it is and don't see the need for the new fence although I'd like to hear more about the new pins once people have had a chance to use them

Dan,

i believe the old metal pins were adjustable (they were set into an offset sleeve with  screwdriver slot in the end, you could insert a screwdriver pushing in the pin until locks into the slot and rotate the sleeve, the bore for the pin was drilled off center so rotating the sleeve moved the pin in or out.

I think (haven't seen one or it's manual yet) the pins on the new design are fixed.

Ya know what! I was thinking about calibrating the outriggers and not the new pins. I did take a quick look at the manual and it says the new pins / dogs are retractable which is a nice feature

Can't wait to hear from someone who has taken a new Domino for a test spin.

Folks,

Before this thread gets some people in the USA upset,  we should all know that Paul David Thomas is in the United Kingdom and purchased his Domino through a United Kingdom dealer.
