Domino Question

I purchased a Domino several months ago and really love it.  I built a baby crib using the domino to attach the spindles.  The domino saved many hours of time versus cutting mortise and tenon.  It has been great fun.  However, one thing keeps giving me trouble.  When using the fence at 90 and setting the mortise height, I have the fence slip beyond the 20mm (or whatever setting) making the cut slowly drift down. I'm down to checking the the fence is against the stop before every cut.  I set the cam lever pretty hard such that I'm afraid of breaking the lever.  Has anyone seen this?  Does anyone have a suggested fix?  I've wreaked or had to recut new mortises on several occasions.  Looking forward to suggestions.

Sadly, this is not an uncommon problem. I believe the official solution is really tighten the locking lever. You may need to reposition the lever to allow more swing. There have been a few other user solution offered on this site (try the search function to see what is out there). I'd recommend you can call your dealer or Festool on Monday for 100% reliable advice.

I put extra washer under the lever, and it works fine for me.

Dave, as Brice indicated, you can remove the screw on the height lever and move the lever back a 1/6 of a turn (it rests on a hex fitting) and then replace the screw.  This will get you more movement on the lever for greater bite.  If that isn't something that you would prefer to do or you think there is a more serious issue, please contact us and we'll be happy to pick it up for warranty repair.  Our toll free number is below in my signature or you can contact me by email or PM.

Edit: Also, I would like to remind everyone who has a Domino that it's important to keep pressure on the fence handle when plunging.  The weight of the machine itself can cause this to happen if you don't keep pressure there.

Thanks.

Shane,  It's been awhile since this post and since I have the same fence slippage issue,  I was wondering if Festool has any retrofit to correct this issue?

This is an old post that I forgot I started.  For closure from my perspective, I followed the advice given and have had absolutely no issues with slipping since.  It was an easy and complete correction.

Jack, as I stated in my response to your email. Any issues with a tool would be covered by our three year warranty. Contact the service department or complete the repair form from our website and ship the tool in for any repairs that need to be made under warranty.

U.S. Repair Form

Just as a closure note, I did return my Domino as Shane suggested and after producing two table and a small cabinet I can say that the Domino fence slipping is no longer an issue - great job Festool guys!
