Domino storage questions

Hi,

   I have some questions about the Domino and Dominos. 

          Does anyone store there tenons in a Sortainer? If so which one etc?

          Do the Cross stop, and Trim stops fit in the Domino Systainer?

Not in a sortainer but in a Cutter & Domino assortment Systainer.

Do you have a systainer for the Domino? Mine looks like it can take this stuff, Cross & Trim Stop.

Markus I bought the Domino Q and mine came with the cross stop and the trim stop in the Systainer. Mine fit, sorry I play in my shop so I keep my domino's in their boxes. Didn't buy the Systainer collection with the bits because my current projects didn't need anything but 5 mm Domino's. Will probably buy it in a couple of months to build some blanket chests for my daughter and granddaughters.  Hope this helps. i bought the whole set up, but I have only used the 5mm small ones.  and have had to buy another box.  I know take out some of the 5mm and put them in my screw systainer the one with the little yellow and green boxes.  I do a lot of bookcase/entertainment centers so I set up an systainer with the kreg screws and square drives etc and some dom... it makes it easier and just fill it up when low.

Seth, I also bought the Domino package (from Bob Marino) and it came with the Trim Stop and Cross Stop accessories. I do not keep them, in the same systainer as the Domino itself. I don't think they'd fit, certainly not if you kept them in the cardboard boxes they come in. If you did squeeze them in, you'd have to remove them every time you took the Domino out of its systainer.

I found enough space for them, in their boxes, in the Guide Rail Accessory KitGuide Rail Accessory Kit (part #492396). You could also keep them in the Cutter & Domino Tenon Assortment Systainer if you removed a couple of the tenon sizes you don't need to carry...and you would have to make some modifications to the wooden dividers to get the stop accessories to fit.

Hi,

    I don't have a Domino yet. Maybe soon. I am just planning ahead a little.  If the Domino Systainer doesn't have slots/positions for the Trim and Cross stops I don't really want to have to squeeze them in.

    I am thinking along the lines of a Sortainer on the bottom of the Domino Systainer. And knowing what will fit where, ahead of time will dictate weather or not I purchase the Tenon Systainer.  If anyone feels like experimenting. I would like to know if the Trim and Cross Stops will fit in small or medium drawers?  And also if a good number of Domino's (the largest size in particular) will fit in a medium drawer. I can find the drawer dimesions here on the FOG. But I don't know the sizes of the stops.
    My initial thought is -  The four drawer sortainer with cutters in a small drawer. Stops in the medium and other small drawer. The large drawer divided up for the tenons.

The domino systainer DOES have cutouts for the trim and cross stops.  (My Domino died and the local dealer loaned the the store demo while it was in for service, the case was identical, and the store demo was the full domino set (including the accessories) The case (systainer and insert) is identical in both cases, seems like I remember the layour is not ideal since you have to dissasemble the cross stop to fit in it, and then it's not obvious how it goes.

Yes, everything fits in the Domino Systainer.  I bought the whole set when the Domino first came out.  The dominos are stored in a separate Systainer fitted by Festool with a plywood divider.  The compartments are filled with the various sized dominos.

  Yup, I know about the tenon Systainer.

  I am still curious about how many tenons will fit in the various Sortainer drawers?  Does anyone want to experiment and help me a little further down the slope? 

  I am partly thinking of clipping the sortainer to the bottom, to conveniently get the tenons without unstacking oropening. But it could also be good for other tools etc that may get used with the Domino. OR for possible future Festool additions for the Domino.  I have to believe that we will see more accessories to use with the Domino down the road. 8)

You could put a heap of tenons in the bottom drawer of a 4-drawer unit.  You can divide that bottom drawer into 3 smaller compartments if you want.  Your situation sounds to me like another customer who would like to be able to buy a Sortainer with two of those big drawers (and the top row of smaller drawers).  But Festool does not bring that one to USA - yet.

If Festool doesn't make more accessories available, maybe Burrell Enterprises (Pittsburgh, PA) will.  Brice has certainly taught us a lot of ways to use many of the Festool router accessories and a few clever new uses for the Domino, too.

If you'd be able to buy components, different size drawers from small to large ones, big enough to fit any of the tools inserts/tools into. That way you could build ant size, configuration you wanted. It looks like they are already assembled components, so maybe it wouldn't be to hard to incorporate new components??

P.S.  Burrell Enterprise has run into UL approval issues with the release of our line of accessories.

    Brice , that would be  8)  I think most of the Sys I tools/inserts could fit the large drawer as it stands.  The small and medium drawers are already interchangable.  Just being able to get (with out an overseas order) the double large drawer, and the single row sm/med drawer Sortainer units would go along ways towards added versatility.

  The double large drawer unit would be good. I could also make deviders for the single large drawer to get all five sizes into it.  Maybe proportioning them to the tenon sizes. The smallest tenons getting a smaller space than the largest.

UL approval is not necessary.  BE approval and FOG acceptance are enough.  Set up an offshore company, a blind family trust (protects all your personal assets from prying eyes and creditors), buy liability insurance and begin the design and production!!
