I've seen this question asked and everytime the answer is "Check EKAT"

Well apparently I'm not smart enough to use EKAT because I can't find the tool inserts on there.

I have a DF 500 that came in a classic systainer and I'd like to upgrade to a T-Loc.  Obviously I know where to buy an empty Sys 2, but I'm not sure how to get a T-Loc tool insert.

Can someone tell me what part number I need or at least where to find the tool inserts on EKAT?

The part number for a DF 500 T-Loc insert is 700892 and sells for $9.95.

Thanks for the tip.  I'll give it a shot before I order the insert.

I'm confused about conversion of Classic to T-Loc Systainers? Is that possible? I recently bought a reconditioned MFK700 with in a Classic Systainer.

A couple of things I did not know (most of you probably already did):

1. It appears you can stack and lock the T-Loc on top of the Classic but not the reverse. Correct?
2. It seems that the only option is to buy a T-Loc Systainer 2 and a T-Loc MFK700 insert (if that is possible). Correct?

1. Correct!

2. Not correct! That is AN option, but you can also modify your current insert to work in a T-LOC.

Look at my thread up a couple of posts from here for a link on how I made an OF2000 insert (ONLY made for a classic sys because of it's age) work with a T-LOC. Lots of pictures, and one of the simplest and most effective mods I've ever made.

If I were you, I'd sure try the mod first - especially having done one and knowing how easy it is! If you do screw it up, or just don't like it, you are lucky - you can always order the T-LOC insert.

If I understand your answer correctly, I would, at a minimum, need to buy a T-Loc Systainer. Correct? There is no way to modify the Classic to stack any other way than to stack the Classic underneath another T-Loc.

Also Correct.

To be technically accurate, you CAN STACK a Classic Sys on top of a T-LOC - you just can't attach or latch them in any manner. It will sit there all day long in a shop, but wouldn't be secure in a van or trailer, or easy to move as a stack, since you couldn't secure them that way.

And, of course, I'd be remiss if I didn't say that you can also place T-LOC's and Classic Sys's in any arrangement you like if they are in a Sys Roll, since the individual shelves of the SysRoll remove the compatibility issues.

But yes, if you want everything to latch together in any order, you probably want to standardize on the newer T-LOC Systainers. They're newer, faster, and lemon scented!!!

Thanks. To replace the Systainer, sort of removes part of the reason for buying a reconditioned tool. I will have to be more careful next time or just buy new. Fortunately, the MFK700 is not an everyday tool for me, so I think I'll try to live with it in a Classic for now, at the bottom of the stack; remove the upper ones when needed. I have 2 stacks on rollers and it might work that way.

Sounds like a reasonable choice.

But since you seem new to this, may I suggest another option?

There are ALWAYS people here looking for Classic Systainers. I sold some recently for friend, and they go fast if you price them right. You could almost certainly ask for and get $40-$50 dollars for a Classic Sys 2 in good used condition. I believe that's what you have? You might get a slight premium if you offer it with the MFK700 insert and lid card, but you wouldn't know that until you try it.

A new T-LOC Sys 2 is $70, including freight, and without tax if you order it from one of the many fine dealers who post here. I won't suggest one, but I have purchased from most of them and would not hesitate to do so again.

So - you can sell your Classic Sys2, buy a new T-LOC Sys2, and be out a total of maybe $20-$30 and a little time. Seems like a pretty good solution to me?

PM me if you want help listing your Classic Systainer. It's not difficult or anything, but I may be able to help with the 'marketing' part?

I am kind of new to Festool. Seems like selling it with the insert would require me then to buy a new insert and incur that additional $9 - $10 cost. For the time-being I will just use it and see whether it is a huge inconvenience. Just out of curiosity why is there a market for the Classics? For my use in the workshop, they are much more versatile and convenient. t.
