Approx two and a half years old IIRC.

UK 240v.

Tried two different plug it cables. Tried it directly off the power socket to eliminate extractor. No obvious signs of binding in the gearbox/mechanism. Pulsing/slowing even when not under load, just spinning away from the workpiece.

VERY minimal use, real specialist tool for me, as my 500 does 99% of the work for me.

I’m midway through a project so would rather not have to send back to Festool if at all possible to avoid.

Suggestions?

Bob,

Sorry about your situation.  I have no experience or expertise in the electronics, but in the past I have read about switches being wiper switches which seem to be self cleaning.  You have nothing to lose by unplugging your tool and operating your switch numerous times in a row.  I have no idea is this will work but it is a suggestion in the hopes that it will get you thru your project.

Mine had that too, for ~30 seconds (total tool on time after noticing the issue) and then the magic smoke escaped with a pop and it had to make a trip through festool service.

My Domino did the same and also came from the UK
I know exactly how you feel and at one point I was contemplating sending my machine on a 12000 mile repair trip!
After an epic 10 month battle with Festool I managed to get it repaired.
This was the diagnosis, I hope it might be some help

On inspection item 10000427 - the PTC resistor, was found to have been pushed in too far making contact with the armature(most likely on assembly), resulting in a blown component. We will order a new part and complete assembly of the tool on receipt.

Thanks for the replies. It’s still not right, so I’ll have to send it back. Real shame considering it’s virtually a brand new tool. Just analysed the projects I’ve undertaken with it and iI have literally cut less than 100 mortises with it.  [sad]
