Hello all
I'm thinking of purchasing a Domino 700 and was thinking I should ask if there are some after market accessories that I should be looking at.  Actually any optional items for that matter.

Thank you

To my knowledge only Seneca Woodworking and RTS make some accessoires for the XL. The Seneca ones are the most usefull.
Look at the Domiplate, thickness gauge, DF500 routerbit adapter or smaller diameter routerbits.

Seneca makes a bunch designed to replicate smaller mortising capacity of the DF500 on the XL, available both individually and as a package.

Seneca is only about 30 minutes from Pittsburgh also.

Cheers. Bryan.

I found the Seneca Domishim and Domiplate to be the most useful accessories for the 700 and 500. They allow easy centering of mortises in nominal 1/2" and 3/4" materials without fussing with the fence.

I bought a bunch of aftermarket accessories when I bought my first Domino, the 500. Except for the Domiplate, I've never used them.

My best decision was to buy the cutter/tenon set with both Dominos.

I've found the #4 and #5 cutters to be the ones I've had to replace. The carbide tip has snapped off 2 #5 cutters and 1 #4 cutter. Having an extra of each might be a good idea.

...

For me it is the Seneca 700 attachment to take the 500 cutters.

I guess that if I had not bought the 500 before I bought the 700, the adaptor and cutters would be used a lot.

Thanks all
Bryan you mentioned that Seneca is located near Pittsburgh?  I'll look into that.  Do they have a retail store or just an online store?  I guess I should just contact them Andy find out.

From reading all the posts it seems the 700 is making the 500 obsolete?

I don't believe that they have a storefront but email them to see.  They are great guys with great products!

I am one of the folks who solely bought the 700 and use adapters and such for the smaller work that the 500 is used for. I am perfectly happy with my decision.

Cheers. Bryan.

I have both and the 500 gets 80% of my usage. There are some really nice features on the 700 that I'd like to see on a remodeled 500. But, the 500 is a lot lighter and seems better fitted for small to medium projects. Definitely not obsolete.

Certainly not obsolete. It just depends if you do larger or smaller projects. We do much larger projects. The thinnest material I have joined so far is 18mm sheet material so the 700 is perfect for me. If I needed to join anything smaller I only have to buy a little adapter. I personally would have no reason to purchase a 500

Gentleman
Let me ask this before I plunk down a lot of money.  I understand its dependent of the project. But which size of domino do you fellows use mostly for let's say 1.5" thick doors?  Do you need to double row them or is one row normally enough?  The reason I'm asking is I'm thinking of buy one of the systainers of dominos and thought.

Thanks

When I bought the 700, I bought both kits and thus all the cutter sizes and an assortment of tenons. I've used all the cutter sizes. It's cheaper in the long run to buy the assortments than individually.

Another question for you all.  All the sizes of the XL 700 can plunge 70 mm deep correct?  Just asking this because I see the smaller 8 and 10 mm only sold in 50 mm lenghts. I'm assuming this is for the DF 500    Just a question that came to me and I thought I'd ask.

Thank you

The cutters for the XL
8mm = 50mm depth
10mm = 70mm depth
12mm = 70mm depth
14mm = 70mm depth

Can you buy the stock in those sizes to cut them at 140 if needed

It's the length of 8mm cutter itself that's limited to 50mm, not the depth of plunge or the availability of the dominos themselves.

[attachimg=1]

See how the threaded end of the shank of the 8mm bit is longer, limiting the depth of cut...

Thank you for the info.  It was something that came to mind since I've been looking into one of the 700's.
