I'm sure this has already been covered but I can't find it.  I want to use dominos for joining rails and stiles.how are others indexing near the end of a stile so as to get to 5mm tenons in a 2 inch space.  I'm trying to avoid the process of marking every stile.  The indexing pins work on the end of the rails, and the lower of the two on the stiles.  Thought I'd ask before I spend a lot of time making some type of jig to hold the work piece offset from the router.

Thanks in advance.

Bill:

I have now made quite a lot of rail and stiles for my kitchen. For the rails, I establish the centerline and then use the attachment that centers the work in the Domino (not sure what the "official" name is). For the stiles, I just use an adjustable square to give me a quick sight line on the stile for the Domino. It takes very little time to go through a bunch of stiles and put in the pencil mark.

I can see how it might be nice to not have to mark each stile, but it's so quick and accurate to use the square, that I'm not sure it's worth the effort.

I've seen discussion here or in another forum using rare earth magnets

I believe the idea was to use several  to get the distance from the index pin right then you can move them to either side as necessary. It seemed to work for the person suggesting it though i believe there was a comment that it would be nice to have magnets flattened on one side so they sat better on the domi.

Hi Bill,

Just use the sight lines scribbed on the clear plastic viewing portion of the Domino machine fence.  Align the correct one of these with the end of the stile.  No reason to measure or mark each.  Once aligned, push down on the fence to hold the work piece while you plunge.
