I have 12 mm Baltic Birch.  I am using the Domino 500 with the 12mm domniplate and I plunge into the edge of my plywood and the domino hole is perfectly centered.  Now I need to plunge a domino hole in the face of the plywood.  My question is:  Do I now remove the Domniplate and then use the Dominio normally (ie no domniplate) and set the depth  at 12 mmm and plunge?  How do I ensure that the domino hole will line up with the edge domino hole???  I can't see the alignment line that was place on the face with the domniplate installed.

You actually keep the Domiplate on the DF500 and use it as a reference on the mating piece.

Our very own [member=3513]PaulMarcel[/member] has an excellent video where he previewed the Domiplate way back in the day and included using it on edge and face plunges:

I recommend watching the whole thing so you don't lose any context, but the meat of your question is closer to 9:30-10:30.

That solves my issues.  I have not used my Domino in over a year and somehow forgot how to do it.  thanks for your help Paul and you too.

Ah, thanks for the tag, [member=75217]squall_line[/member]

That clip (if me babbling for 15 minutes is a 'clip'...) is part of a "Domino Cheat Sheet" playlist. Some of the other clips may be handy, too, if you don't use the Domino often.

Paul, your videos were very helpful when I took up woodworking.  Are you back from the Circus and making videos again?

Thanks! Still doing circus. The videos just took a lot of time and though I never went into doing them for making money like the guys doing it professionally, it was frustrating that YouTube had enormous loopholes for "claiming" a copyright on your video and taking all your revenue until the claim expired. A couple of years after I stopped, they fixed that loophole because people could make money elsewhere without that happening.

I do maintain a "shorts" list in the shop. While it wouldn't be the format I had before, they are mostly shop tips. Someday I may don a ridiculous tee shirt and shoot a bunch for staggered release. Who knows...
