Hi Everyone, especially those who will be my fellow class participants.

On 13 April, Minnie G sent us each an e-mail asking if we need hotel reservations.

Already 2 other class members have contacted me. We hope to have an informal no-host meal the evening of Wednesday 25 May ahead of the class.

Some of us are driving to Henderson. I will arrive there about noon on Wednesday because I have a meeting with a client. One of the participants cannot leave until he finishes work on Wednesday so he will join us when he can. Fortunately at Sunset Station food is available 24/7.

At classes back in Lebanon, IN people who participated in pre-class dinners report doing so added a lot to their experience.

Of course everyone in the class who wants to do so will go to the dinner paid for by Festool on the first evening of class. What the Lebanon participants found was that there are advantages of already knowing the others before the meeting near the reception desk waiting for Steve Bace to transport us to the training center.

If any class participants want to contact me, send me a FOG PM and I will get back to you with my e-mail address and cell phone number.

I'am the one leaving after work. For me it is about a 4 hour drive. So I expect to get there around 10 or so.

Be ready I'am bring my camera again.

GP, we all are counting on you to take a lot of photos, like last time.

As for the 10PM arrival, as I say they serve food 24/7 at Sunset Station. I dare say several of us will still be up. You have my cell number. Give us a call and we will arrange to meet you.

I wish I could attend this class...will be there the two days prior for the cabinet class, though...which I was not able to take last time with the router class.  [blink]

It will be a lot of fun and looking forward to it!

Hi Scot,

We will miss you, but there will be many more Doors & Drawers classes. You really will get so much out of the cabinet class. It is quite the Domino intensive.

Depends on the work load at the office, but I will be trying to get out of the office earlier on Wed evening.  [wink]

Hi FOG Members,

The Henderson, NV Doors and Drawers class on 26 and 27 May is rapidly approaching.

Already some of us who will be participating in that class have discussed a planned pre-class gathering the evening of Wednesday 25 May and a post-class gathering the evening of Friday 27 May. One of the participants lives in the Greater Las Vegas area. Another participant and me are not leaving until early on Saturday 28 May, so we can participate in the post-class gathering.

It seems only fair to invite anyone interested who will be near Henderson on the evenings of Wednesday 25 May and Friday 27 May to join these gatherings. Those interested are welcome to send me a FOG PM so I can provide my personal cell phone number to co-ordinate. Probably the pre-class gathering will be in the Sunset Station, where do it yourself parking is free. We have not decided where within Sunset Station, and shout the buffet close, the gathering could well move. Same goes for the Friday gathering. Best to do the coordinating by cell phone.

See everyone in Henderson!

Hi All FOG Members, especially those living near Las Vegas and Henderson,

The cunning plan is still to hold a pre-class gathering the evening of Wednesday, 25 May, probably somewhere in Sunset Syation because the DIY parking there is free.

I will be driving to Henderson early on Wednesday because I have a 12:30 PM meeting there with a client.

One of our class members is flying in from the Mid-West and expects to be at Sunset Station on Wednesday by 8:30 PM

One member is driving up from So Cal but cannot leave until is work day is over, so he might not arrive until 10 PM

One member lives close to Henderson, so will not be staying at Sunset Station.

One class mate will not arrive by plane until early Thursday morning.

The sixth class mate has not been in contact.

Anyone who would like to be part of the pre-class gathering is most welcome to send me a PM and I will get back to you with my cell number. This way I can tell you exactly where we will be gathering.

I'm preparing to fly out in a few hours.  I connect at Chicago O'hare to Las Vegas.  I have 30 min. to make the connection, so if there is a head wind it will likely put my incoming flight from the U.P. of Michigan off by at least that much.  If this occurs, I will not likely get into Vegas until very late this evening and may not see you all until Thursday a.m.

Hoping my flights all work out as planned and that I can participate in tonight's gathering.

I have Carrol's cell# on hand so will make the call when I arrive, or, if my connection doesn't work out and I'm going to be late.

Best,
Corey

CANCELLED!  [crying]  My flight out of my one terminal local airport to Chicago has been cancelled and I cannot get out of town until the next scheduled flight, which is 6:30am tomorrow.  I would not be able to get into Vegas until late afternoon so unfortunately I am cancelling my flights and therefore, sadly, must cancel my attendance to the doors & drawers class tomorrow & Friday.

Sorry I won't be able to meet you guys... looking into attending another in the hopefully not to distant future.

So, how about an update on the class. How did it go? Any pictures or comments?

Was a great class. I have some photos and will post them shortly (AKA Sunday morning) [big grin].

We had a 30 minute intro on the NAINA CMS. There were two, one with an OF1400 and a second with the OF2200.  We routed rails and stiles on the CMS with the OF1400  and did raised panels on the CMS with the OF2200.

So I guess you can NOT buy one, but the training center can have them.  [huh]

Better late then never:

We also used the elusive CMS to make a raised panel door.

We also had a chance to use the new soon to be released CXS drill. Steve has several of these on hand.

In GPowers fine class photo above I am the shortest with the beard, grown out since Solid Surface class in February.

It was thrilling to use the CMS with both the OF1400 and OF2200. Personally when I do get a CMS I will dedicate an OF2200 to it. It is far more convenient and efficient to change the bits with an OF2200 mounted on the CMS. This is because the OF2200 has enough plunge the collet can be extended above the table using the CMS lift system.

We covered the construction of several styles of commonly used cabinet doors, besides the cope & stick with solid wood raised panel.

To make the blank for the raised panel we "borrowed" the match-cut technique from the solid surface industry. As Steve Bace explained, you position the edges which will be joined. Clamp a guide rail so the kerf of a TS55 covers the joint. Make the cut. Both sides will be perfectly joined, without use of a joiner. After making the match cut we did use 3 6mm Dominoes to support the final joint.

The fact is in my shop we make a whole lot of raised solid lumber doors each week. Of course we have an excellent joiner and I have used the Domino for such joints since it has been available. It was so nice to learn another method. Should my joiner be down for service we will use the match cut method.

The match-cut method works really well.  I learned it ages ago from, I think, workshop demos and I think a video of a younger Bob :)  Since I don't have a power jointer, I do the match-cut trick for panel glue-ups.  Sometimes, though, I get inspired by Brice and joint them with hand planes  [tongue]

So... how big of a shirt would you need to sneak out the OF2200 CMS?!?

I tried the match-cut technique when I got home and could not get a perfect joint. The last 1/4rd of the cut always had a gap.  Gave up after trying 3 or 4 times as the s4s was a better glue joint
