Drill bit storage

Hi everyone

Now that I'm a proud owner of both a CSX and a PDC (courtesy of the recent eBay bargin!) its time for me to invest in some centrotec bits to accompany them.

Whilst I have made my peace with festools pricing as these are truly premium products I refuse to accept that the horriable blow moulded plastic inserts that "organise" the centrotec installers sys are the best possible solution available.
And so I am wondering what you guys have come up with to address this as I'm sure I can't be the only one.....

I agree with you . There is so much wasted space that I don't use the insert for my carvex , cxs or pdc drill. I used some ethafoam I had lying around for the drills but haven't finalised the layout yet,, when I do  wwork out exactly how I want it I will post some pics.

Hi Jamie,

You've got the same setup as myself now - CXS and PDC.  What I have decided is to consolidate and have easy access so I've got 2 x 5 drawer Sortainers and 1 T-Loc on the top - this is my "drilling rig" good old american cheese

I will be ditching the CXS and PDC T-Loc's.

T-Loc will have

• Custom CNC foam insert for Bosch bits

• Custom CNC foam insert for Centrotec bits
• 2 x Festool "Sets" - The Zobo Set and the HSS Set

The attic lid of the T-Loc will also be populated with the brad point set, bit set and not sure on the 3rd one yet, maybe custom/homemade one.

Underneath the T-Loc will be Sortainer 1 which will have

• Assorted drill bits - spades, mad bits, tile bits etc in the top 3 drawers
• Augers, holesaws, step drills and medium length spade bits in drawer 4
• PDC & CXS charger, 2 x batteries and possibly the chucks for said drills (if they won't fit in my Centrotec CNC foam insert) in drawer 5

Underneath Sortainer 1 will be Sortainer 2 which will have

• Assorted drill bits in the top 3 drawers
• CXS & PDC in drawer 4
• Reserved for BHC 18 and impact driver in drawer 5

All of this is on a Sys-Roll.  It will be finished in the new year - I've just ordered the last bits I need to finish it.  Other than heavy duty masonry work this will do me for the majority of drilling tasks and still has some spare room - I'm going to need a few forstner bits from Famag and I'm hoping they will come in a plastic container thing like Bosch auger bits so I'll just chuck them with the CXS or something.

Have you bought your Centrotec bits yet? If not, I really can't recommend the attic systainer inserts/bit sets strongly enough. They're really great, and (amazingly) pretty reasonably priced for what you get. They fit into the attic systainer lid that your PDC came in.

769093 - Wood drill bits
769094 - Small driver bits
769095 - Long driver bits
769096 - Masonry bits.

The only complaints I have are that you can't buy them empty (although I think Tanos has just started selling them empty I believe); the masonry bits are great quality but they're just too short; and lastly you can only fit 3 in each attic.

Love that CNC'd foam, the black on red looks really good. I have many systainers holding non festool kit and could certainly make use of a few sheets of that! Do you know the product name or a uk supplier?

P.s. I have an entire sys full of those Bosch holesaws they are the dogs danglies!

The CNC insert was something I had done for myself just to see what else I could do with systainers.  Ridiculously expensive for one offs.  I used to know the product name of the sheet foam but unless you can get it CNC'd I'm not sure how good a DIY attempt at cutting it would be?

The Bosch holesaws are good - look at Starrett holesaws too, supposed to be very good.

The link you posted to Tanos - yes that is what JRB was referring to.  As you're in the UK, checkout a company called VanTainer - they have that very product listed on their website as orderable.  Tanos.de does say available in January.
