Drill systainers

I know some of this has been covered and I know some guys put their drills in the big drawer of the sort 4.

The c-12 will fit I just dont really want all the bits and parts smacking around in there and you can't make the insert for the drill fit that drawer,
I ordered one and ruined it trying, it was fun though.

I would like the option of some different way to bury my drill in my stack and have a different systainer ride on top.
I really want to keep my sys box on top, or if I could get a sys2 or sys 3 box [big grin]

Anyone do anything about this already?

I tried to get my drill set to go in there but the charger was too tall....I've though about modifying it to fit but then my holesaw kit wouldn't fit properly.

This could be solved with a larger variety of sortainers with deep drawers.  A "2" thick sortainer with a big compartmentalized drawer would be good.

I can get everything for my C-12 in the drawer on the sort 4.  I have to just toss it in there and it bangs around.
I could not even make it fit with diced foam either.

I salvaged foam pieces from packing material that comes with some of my electronics and I shoved them in and around stuff that I didn't want to rattle.

I know, cover your entire set in petroleum jelly and spray form the drawer, then set them all in place. [big grin] [big grin]

Why not make a wooden insert in the drawer. Use some 4mm thick beech plywood, it is very light. You can make compartments to fit everything very tightly so it won't bang around. Perhaps you can't fit the entire C12 insert in the drawer, but you could try to use only the part that fits the drill itself and divide the rest of the space you have with beech plywood dividers.  

I sort of have the same problem with my new T15. Not that I want to access it from a systainer with others on top, but that I want to take all my accessories with it in 1 systainer. I take out the charger and leave it at home because I'm not gonna use up 2 batteries in 1 day as an amateur. In that space that remains I can keep all my drill bits. Only problem, they're too much for the sys 1 the T15 came in, so now I'm gonna change it for a sys 2 and make a custom fit box out of beech plywood where every centrotec and non-centrotec part will fit in.

Another option of which I'm thinking of is making your own drawer systainer by modifying a sys 3 or a sys 4. Glue the lid shut and rip out the front, and then built your own drawers inside it. Gives you a better opportunity to fit everything the way you want and use the space inside the sortainer more economically. Only drawback is that it doesn't look as cool as a factory systainer.

I do wish there where more options in sortainers, and in systainers in general.

Get the Sortainer FIVE drawer (size = Sys IV)

Cut out the upper drawer support, and add some 1/4" ply sidewalls to the lower drawer.  Should be about 7" deep or so.  Lotta cabbage to chop up a Sortainer, but sometimes it's not about the money!

I'm pretty sure they Sortainers have aluminum rails in the horizontal supports and cutting them could compromise the integrity.  I'm just working off of memory so I may be wrong.

If the C12 and accessories already fits in there well and it just bangs around I would measure out all the excess space and cut up some dense packing foam and glue it in position, then take one of your wives drawer liners from the kitchen drawers, cut it up and put it in the bottom to cushion things.

The only caveat here is that you have no lid compressing on things to keep it all in place, and if something pops out of its spot the drawer could be a real bear to open.

I wish Festool would add that Systainer to their USA catalogue.  I have the similar unit that has only one larger lower drawer (total of 4 drawers) and keep most of my measuring tools, marking tools, some drill bits, some specialty fasteners, and extra pads for my Deltex 93 sander in it.  An additional large drawer would make a highly versatile unit.
