Here is my latest drywall project, half a duplex that is 2100sqft a side.
The wainscotting and tray ceiling is all drywall strips and vinyl trims made by a company called trim-tex.
I cut all the trim and bead with my kapex and sanded all the big stuff with my Planex just incase anybody is wondering what drywall has to do with a primarily woodworking forum.

Very interesting to me to see all the different drywall treatments.  Is this normal in your area?  How does the trim tex hold up to bumps and bruises?

Peter

It's far from normal around here, In fact I think I'm probably the only one around here doing this kind of stuff, most of the trims had to be special ordered. As far as durability goes TrimTex is extremely strong they supply around 40% of the corner bead around here and it doesn't dent like traditional metal corners do.
I have a question for the carpenters here, a lot of people ask why not make it out of mdf? My answer is usually "cause I'm not a carpenter I'm a drywaller" but how much work would it be to do something similar with mdf, how many hours and what would the material costs be? Also including finishing.

RE your question about doing it with mdf:  if you are talking about the details in the wainscoting - I suspect that if you were trying to compare times it would really depend on the skill of the drywall finishing professional.  How many coats to finish?

With mdf you will have a potentially harder surface but to make it look as seamless as an all drywall system will take time.  Additionally, over time there will be expansion and contraction between dissimilar materials.

Very nice! The curved wall I recently did now feels like childsplay lol.

Here are some photos of my tray ceiling and drywall wainscotting now that its been painted.

So 100% of this is done with Sheetrock?  I dunno if this is a regional thing but I've just never seen anything like that.

You sir are a master craftsman. I live the tray ceiling, we don't see enough of that kind of detail here.
Keep up the good work and thanks for posting.
