Dust collection on domino and TS55?

Up to now the only tool I used with my vacuum were my PC ROS and biscuit cutter.  They have a 1" OD port, so I made up a 1"ID hose for my vacuum.

Now I have a Domino and a TS55 also.

The Domino has a threaded port that is just a bit over 1", so I can force my hose on.  I can probably also file it down a bit so that the hose fits fine.

The TS55 has a much larger port; over 1.5"OD.  I have used it by ducttaping the hose on, but that isn't good except as a test.  I can probably make an bushing/adapter.

Before I disfigure my tools is there a better way?  (I mean to adapt to my 1"ID hose, not to buy a Festool dust extractor) I expected the domino and the saw would have the same dust ports, but they don't  Why?

What's different about the two is the way the hose attaches to them. With the domino, the hose fits over the outside of the port. With the TS55, the hose fits inside the port. Both tools accept the same Festool hose. It may or may not be an option for you depending on the vac you have, but the easiest thing may be to just buy a festool hose. There are tons of different adapters available that you can make work, but I realy prefer just having the hose. The Festool hose has a flexible end to it. This is needed for connection to different tools, especially the ones with the oval ports on them. Get a gray hose instead of a green one if you're using anything other than a Festool vac.

Hi,

What Lou said. Plus- the Festool D27 x whatever length you want will attach to every Festool  tool.  And you will probably end up with more ;)  If you get the Festool hose it ends up being a small investment over time, and you won't have to keep swapping out adapters etc.  Also the D27 Festool hose fits the PC 1" ports very well.  I used it with my PC ROS, and still do on my PC bisquit joiner. No adapters.

Lou's advice is right on. Plenty of adapters out there for you to use and if your vac has the standard 2 1/4" dc port, lookk to get the Festool grey (non-antistatic) 27 mm hose.

It will not fit the HL 850

I use Fernco rubber fittings to make things fit.  I mentioned on another thread that all engineers and others who design DC systems must take some kind of course in sadism.  It is required so they will have no trouble making things that almost, but not quite fit.

I'm using the Fein Turbo II for my portable tools.  Their multi adapter(~$4US) with the small section removed attached to my Domino and the grey Fein hose connected directly to my TS-55 work great.
As far as the different fittings, I imagine the designer figured that the Domino needed a higher velocity to extract dust from the mortise.  Also weight and mobility may have been a factor since the saw is used on a track and the Domino is handheld.

Huh.  How about that. It makes sense that you would want the D36 on the HL850, but I am surprised that the D27 doesn't fit.

The 850 really needs the bigger hose. If you hog any real amount of stock you can plug the 27 pretty easily.

I jam my 27 hose in to my planer. it has always stayed fine for me. I don't do it often but it works for me.

The standard 27 mm hose will/can fit the dc port on the planer (rubber end fits into, not over the port), but is not the recommended hose for the planer. The 36 mm hose (end fits over the dc port) is the way better way to go.

Their cheapest hose is $55, and I have a large box full of hoses...    I don't see that they sell just the end piece; it must wear out eventually, did I overlook it?

thanks

Hi,

You should be able to get that as a part from a dealer.

Seth

I agree with Bob.  I have the 3.5mm Festool A/S hoses in 27 and 36 mm.  As Bob stated, with the 36mm hose, it fits OVER the fitting on the saw.  It also fits the DC outlet of my JoinTech fence without any adapters.  I also have the short 50mm Festool A/S hose that is included with the Boom Arm.  The vacuum machine end of each of these hoses fits directly to any of my Festool, Fein and Craftsman vacuum machines without any adapters.  The 36mm hose itself (without any end fitting) fits nicely onto the inlet of Oneida's Dust Deputy.  I use the 36mm hose when I can with the saw and the router because it is less likely to clog than the 27 mm hose, and join the 27mm hose to the end of the 36mm hose when I want to clean up remote areas of my shop without moving the vacuum machine.

Picked one up today.  A bit pricey, but does what it is supposed to.
Sadly my shopvac accessories don't fit, so I will have to buy new ones.  Presumably I want the 1 7/16" rather than the 2"?  Does anything cheaper than Festool fit it?

Thanks.

HI,

I have one or two cleaning tools that I can jam the D27  end into. But I don't know what brand they are. Just odds and ends. You could take the end piece to a store and see what will fit from the shop vac isle.

All of the tools that came with my Fein Turbo II vacuum fit my Festool 27 mm hose.  I use the angled head and brush from the Fein much of the time to clean up around my table saw and router table.  I did purchase Festool's crevice nozzle because it has a longer reach than that from Fein.
