Dust Deputy Boom Arm?

Hey guys,

I was reading through some old posts and some of you said that you used the Onieda Dust Deputy in conjunction with your CT vacuums. I was thinking about getting the boom arm with the CT33.

I can see that the DD would make emptying the debris a lot easier than opening the vac & dumping the bag. But, doesn't it kind of defeat the purpose of the boom arm to have it go from the boom down to the DD and then to the tool? Have any of you placed it inline before the boom arm; i.e. CT to DD to boom arm?

By the way, how many feet of hose come off of the boom arm before the connection to the tool? Is it like 5 or 8 feet, or does the hose end up on the floor anyways?

Thanks,

Rod

I would have thought that the DD WAS inline between the vac and the tool. I haven't done it, but I wouldn't bother using a cyclone anywhere else.

You can adjust the hose on the arm so that you have the length you want at the end of the boom. The hose/cords just clip on to the boom.

You might also note that Festool also lists 16 ft hoses in its catalogue.  So you create custom setups if you want.  I'm too lazy at this moment to go to my garage and measure the length of the 50mm AS hose that comes with the boom arm, but I think it is 5-6ft maximum.  I can say that the DD works as advertised.  And if I happen to accidentally vacuum up a fastener or something I did not intend to, I can dump out the DD and recover it more easily than from a Festool bag.

Rod,
I have the Clearview not the DD. It sits on top of my CT22 so it moves around with the vac. I used the short hose that came with the boom arm to go from vac to cyclone.

I'm currently using my DD with my Fein Turbo II, and have hooked up the cylcone to the vacuum machine using the 50mm hose that comes with the Boom Arm.  By the way, Festool's 36mm hose without any end fitting is a near perfect, snug fit onto the inlet of the DD cyclone.  Or you can add one of those rubber clamp style drain plumbing adapters to the inlet of the DD and then you can easily fit the vacuum machine end fitting of the festool (and Fein) hoses.
