Hi everyone, this is my first post so hope it all makes sense and someone can help. I've just joined the Festool gang after loving these tools for years. I've purchased a second hand TS55 plunge saw, the only way I could get one for now, but the problem is I've got a large extractor in the workshop but need one I can carry around in the van. You all know the quality in Festool speaks for itself but I couldn't possibly afford a festool extractor. Has anybody out there got any ideas about a good but cheaper alternative. I only need something equivalent to a festool midi. Thanks all hope to hear from you soon

dont know about other vacs . i have a ct22 that i bought after using my record p dx4000 extractor. get the festool vac and have variable speed and ability to put a systainer on top.

Hi,

I do not know what brands and types are available in the UK. Any shop vac will do the job on the TS55 as long as you can adapt the connection. It does not have to be a top quality vac to get the job done. I would be inclined to go on the cheap side rather than middle of the road. Get your use out of it while saving up for the Festool.

I agee with SRSemenza. I would add that a "shop Vac" could effect is your sanding, since it won't have the variable suction.  You didn't mention sanding, I just thought I would throw that out there.

Contrary to the States where it's somehow a specialty, almost ALL vacs in Europe have variable suction. You'd have to search hard to find one without it.

As to the OP's question, ANY vac will do. I worked for years with cheap home vacs before I got my first Festool vac. You just need to make sure the connection fits, which can be easily done with a variety of adapters.

And why not try to find a second hand CTL Mini, I got mine for only €170.

You can pick up a basic henry vac for aroung £60-70 which will do the job, but you won't have the auto-switch-on so you'd have to turn the vac on and off manually.

Keep an eye out on eBay, though Festools generally hold their value really well there have been a couple of minis/midis gone for quite reasonable money recently. Plus, now the CTL26/36 have been out a while the resale value of the older 22s and 33s has come down.

Over here the Fein Dustex 25 is just over half of the price of a Festool midi. That's what I'll be doing.

I second the Fein, I see used Turbo II's in the $100 to $150 range all the time.  I bought one new for $250, it is a great vac and works like a charm with the TS55.
