Bought an ETS EC 125 and can't undo the hex bolt to change pads.  Is it a reverse screw or something? I'm concerned that if I apply anymore force I might round over the hex with the Allen key.

Don't worry. Got it now. Not a reverse thread just needlessly over-torqued!

Note to Festool, there is absolutely no need to tighten them to that extent in the factory!

Changing it over to an EC 150?    [poke]

I was!  [big grin]

And on initial impressions for the last hour I am thoroughly pleased. Two sanders for the price of one!

Since I converted mine, it's been used on drywall, aluminum, teak and NY Bluestone. It works great, now I have to start a 150 mm abrasives Systainer.  [eek]

I had the same problem, used my M12 Milwaukee impact driver, spun it right off.

Haven't had this issue on the EC, but the bolt on the older ETS150/3 is a PITA to undo -- you have to have the pad firmly pressed into the work surface to prevent it from spinning.  The impact driver trick is a good idea though, at least for removal.

Now I've undone it, it's fine.

Just seemed over tightened. I phoned the place I bought it from to inquire about it being a reverse thread and the guy there said he's had the same problem in the past with the EC and deformed the bolt and got the Allen key/wrench permanently stuck.

I had the same issue with mine, it just needed a long handle hex wrench and a sharp wrap with a soft mallet...the equivalent to the poor man's impact wrench.

When I changed  the pad on my ETS EC 125 from the stock pad to the hard pad all I did was grab the sander in one hand and supplied allen key with the other, turned the allen key and removed the screw.  Piece of cake.

What's the problem?  I used to bench press, squat and dead lift over 400 pounds at the gym with no problems.....

Maybe you guys need to eat more protein and incorporate some BCAA's into your diet.  And also get some 100 pound dumbbells for some concentration curls........ [tongue]    [poke]

Don't let a little screws get the best of you......man up !!!!!    LOL !!!!!!!

Those pad bolts tend to tighten themselves too. If I change a pad I just make it snug otherwise I have the same problem with them being really hard to get off.

Agree with Seth...Festool torques them down to some predetermined torque level and unfortunately through use, they just become tighter. When I removed the pad, I put a small dab of Never-Seez on the bolt. The same way you treat a Domino.
