ETSC 125 hybrid random orbital sander - is anyone else having this issue?

I recently picked up the hybrid ETSC 125 Random Orbital Sander having used the corded ETS 125 for a few years now at work. I figured I might as well go for the convenience of not needing to plug into a power outlet and that if I did wanted to run it corded then the dummy pack/AC adapter would give me the best of both worlds.

However, I've found that the AC Adapter and the batteries themselves do not click into the back of the sander in any tactile or satisfying way. They push in and they stay in, but there's no "click" or anything to tell me the battery or adapter is secured and engaged. It goes together more like a pressure fit. It doesn't come close to the way my Milwaukee or Makita tools' batteries snap in, and is even worse than my Mafell MT55 18M, which held the previous record for limpest handshake between battery and tool in my collection.

All that being said, I can't pull the batteries out easily, so I guess something's engaged in there? I'm just curious if any other owners have the same issue or whether I got a bad tool. Maybe I'm overreacting. It's making me consider getting the corded ETS EC 125 over this anyways, as I really haven't found a reason to use it on battery power over the cord.

Mine pushes in, in two stages. First it pushes in deep and you get resistance. I then bump it with my hand and it clicks. On mine it doesn't click in, without a bump.

1. The batteries/adaptor do not "click" into position. Just push them in fully and you will see the green tab move internally to lock them in place. They lock in fully and do not fall out during use...I guess I'm ok with it because the adaptor doesn't fall out even with the cord attached. I've used it for hours with the adapter and nothing became loose.

2. Now this is an issue, once the green tab is pushed the battery/adaptor should be very easy to remove. Just depress the tab and pull. This is the case for both the ETSC & DTSC so I assume this is what Festool wanted. Check inside the battery holder for something awry.

Mine too is just the same. And I believe this is intended.
You cannot compare with how Milwaukee and Bosch click in place. Their mechanisms on the 12V line is much simpler.

See those red barrels inside in the photo below? These are firm cushions that keep the battery or adaptor firmly and centred in place where the terminals are. The green lever only produces a silent “clack” when engaging. As Cheese says, it’s visible when engaging.
I push the battery in until resistance, and then give the end a more firm bump.

It’s also correct that once the lever is pushed down, you need to pull a little. This is probably also intended so the battery doesn’t jump out, dropping it on the floor.. Likewise it’ll hold the battery internally to cushion and soften vibrations.

That's super good to know, thank you for the response. Regarding #2, I didn't word that very well. What I meant is I can't pull them out without engaging the green tab, but they come out just fine when I do that. Because I wasn't hearing a click I thought that maybe they weren't engaged, but even without a click they wouldn't pull out so it was clear that something was locked in in there.

Thanks, good to know it's just how the tool's designed and not a problem or something I'm doing wrong.
