Looking at a Fein MM on Ebay at the moment, it has quick change but I am wondering when that came in. At least then I will know how old it is.

It looks in reasonable nick, not a site tool.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks in anticipation

Lol not much help but not that long ago lol

I know I bought mine about 3 years ago and the guy was saying the quick change has not long been out

I bought my last Multimaster in July 2006 as a heavily-discounted large kit.  It was the high-end previous model without the quick change ability and without the star washer system.  The quick change model with the star pattern came out very shortly thereafter and I wished I hadn't bought mine.  My guess is that the quick change model might have come out around late 2006.

Theres loads of multi's on ebay at the moment I was just looking one of them is brand new but it doesnt have the full kit with it.

I keep meaning to sell my multimaster case its been sitting around since I transfered mine to a systainer 1.

I just ordered the Top Plus kit today. I got a reasonably good price from Powertoolworld at £228 incl vat and postage. I have been looking at the ones on ebay and found one priced  a few pounds cheaper but opted to go with the former as I have bought from them before and found them to be very good. I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on it and seeing what it can do. I hope if you decide to go for the one you are looking at on ebay it works out well.

Amazing how the price of those kits has gone up so quick I got my top set for £185 from a shop then found it for £155 on the net  [embarassed] and now they are over £220

GUY how did you get on did you get one off eBay ?

I watched one on there it was at £89 for a brand new one in a case but with only sanding pads it ended on about £116 + £15 postage. It made me laugh reading the description the guy couldnt spell to save his life it was like a 5 year old had written it.  [laughing] [laughing]

These are pretty rugged beasts and as long as it has the "quick change" feature and the "star washer" is in good shape the tool is probably pretty good.  The Multimaster has come a long way since I bought my first single-speed unit as the "Feinschleifer" triangle sander in 1990 or 1991, but even then my view was that you could turn this thing on, go away for a month, return and it would still be running.

As to the value of the auction lot, I would get a complete list of the accessories and whether they are new or used and base much of my bid on that.  Genuiine Fein accessories can be pricey and a box full of them can be worth more than the machine.  Make sure the accessories have the star-shaped hole as I've seen these kits sold in the U.S. with a random collection of assembled older accessories with only the round hole, and these won't fit on this machine.

This appears to be the variable speed machine, which I consider mandatory.  Also, if this model doesn't have built-in dust collection, consider quickly buying the dust port which is typically available at a discount on the same auction site.

Hi Joiner

Still watching it, its this one

The tool is offered by a reseller so he says it is a quick change but doesn't know how old it is, or how much use it has had.

Bit undecided whether to go for this or save the pennies and go with the dealer that Jonathon did.

What do you reckon?

honestly Guy, i wouldn't do it.. because the machine is not with complete accessories - which, when replaced easily sum up to £80-90 .. and .. its fairly aged with no Info on how many beatings it had to stand.. I had the same problem about a year ago and went the new way, baught one from ebay for 180 Euro - A real bargain = Schnäppsche (german)  [smile]
Here as a start off point, Amazon sells a very complete kit for £229 - free shiping. Full guarantee !
Fein Multimaster 250
in comparison, this is an offer from a pretty straight forward german dealer on ebay selling it for 339 Euros:
Fein Multimaster 250 on ebay.de

kind regards, Mike

[thanks] Mike

I will give it a miss and put the money towards a new one, or perhaps an RO90, or I could do with a RS200, or maybe a CXS, or perhaps.............. [big grin] [big grin] [big grin].

Guy, I watched one yesterday on ebay, full kit and new from a private seller ( unwanted gift I think ) good pictures. He wanted £125 with buy it now, needless to say someone snapped it up within a few hours of it being posted. There seems to be a few bargains on there over the past few weeks, if you are not in a hurry to buy. I went with Powertoolworld because they offered the Top Plus kit with the addition of the round sanding pad for the cheapest price I was able to find online. Though part of me wishes I had pounced on that one yesterday on ebay and could have bought the round sanding pad later.

I'm still waiting on my order from friday as I found out on monday they were waiting for a delivery of new stock that day. The woman on the phone said their price online had proved quite popular and they had sold allot of them over the past few weeks. I'm hoping it will arrive before I start work on a new job on friday.
