Hey guys, Ive been needing an oscillating tool more and more lately and currently have one of those rockwell $50 specials from lowes. It works OK but i havent been happy with it. Im wondering if i will be much more thrilled with a real FEIN tool? things i dont like with the rip off one is how much the actual body vibrates and cutting is very slow to the point where i try avoid using it as much as possible.

Sell me on a real fein tool? :D

TIA

Hold on to your cheapy right now. Here's what may be coming to your neighborhood before long.... in green!

Noooooooo Dont Tease me like that! I have been really wishing for a festool oscillating tool  [big grin]

Did they announce this at connect?

I don't know when it is coming to the USA, but it is available in Europe on April 1st.  I think it's going to put a dent in Fein's business, plus it has a vertical component that is unique.

Cheers,

Frank

The new Festool looks sweet, but Fein lowered th price of their Supercut quite a bit lately.
On the other hand, you can pick up a perfectly good Multimaster for less than $200, and vibration and oower will blow await your Rockwell.
My first Multimaster lasted more than 12 years. I tried replacing it with two different Bosch versions inside a year and a half, and then bought another Fein.

Note: Fein also invented the electric drill!

every aspect of the fein exudes high quality. it is built like a gun. you could probably drive a tank over it and keep using it. i would never hesitate to buy one if it turned out i needed it. a great value at 200 bucks.

(i assume the festool will be similarly satisfying to use...)

I have owned 5 multi-tools including the Fein. We were using them daily in the remodeling business and I said every day I don't know how we did with out them. The Fein does look and feel like a high quality tool but it does not cut better than the cheapos. I have 2 harbor freight tools and they are almost as good as the Fein for $29. Now than I found the Imperial blades I am even more pleased with them. Last time I priced a Fein blade they were $35 and I am sure they are less now but I pay $7 for the harbor freight ones. Save you money for other Festools.

I am a flooring guy.  I use these tools very often.  I have 7-8 of them.  5 feins, and a few cheapos, I will tell you, there is nothing currently available (till festool releases) that is even close to the quality of the fein tools.  They take a crazy beating and keep working.  I also have a Bosch, rockwell, and PC, these are ok, but you will burn up 5 of them before you burn up 1 multi master.

I had a Bosch 10.8v for a while and i just stopped using it, as i felt it couldn't do what i needed it to do, but since buying the Fein 14.4v i have found a new love for the Multi Tool and it is effectively my go to small cutting tool.

My vote is for the Milwaukee 12v multi tool. It is not the most powerful one out there but it is so nice to have it cordless. [smile]

I'd nominate the makita 18v multi tool, I like fein and festool but makita is good for me.

I have the fein. It works great. But keep your finger out of the way when you close the quick release lever. It's a knuckle buster!

I have been a Festool cool aid drinker too long to think that the Festool multi tool will be in the USA any time soon. Heck the April fool's day release day is telling:). I have to admit I can't wait. The nut on my supercut just broke.:(

I got the Milwaukee  cordless.  I use it because its soooo handy to just do a quick cut without a lead but my corded Fein cuts so much nicer less vibration.

I would of bought the Fein cordless but I already had the Milwuakee cordless when they released the cordless Fein.

Yip I got caught out once not long after I bought it.    It comes down hard and it does hurt lol

I have the Fein and the Makita cordless. I'm using the cordless more and more. The word on the street is that Fein is making Festools version anyway, so I doubt they are losing sleep.

Well, you have more options now that Fein cut the price of their Supercut model so drastically.
I own the smaller Multi-Master model and love it. I also have an air powered Harbor Freight version for those times where water or a wet location would be an issue for my electric tool.
With either stock attachments or aftermarket blades, the Fein excels and has less vibration than other corded knock offs of this type of tool that I've tried,  but try one at a dealer to make up your own mind.

Thanks guys for all your input! Im going to go ahead and get the supercut, i can always sell it when/if the festool one releases over here in the states.

Will a supercut and basic blade accessories fit in a sys one or was the insert designed for a sys2?
