Hi folx!
I do have a question concerning fences on tablesaws. I think i dimly remember from my apprenticeship several decades ago, that the fence is not supposed to extend far beyond the riving knife. Do you have any guidelines on that or am i totally hallucinating??
Best regards: Andi

It is a recommendation from the UK Health & Safety Executive that "To prevent kickback, the front of the fence must be set no further than the base of the saw blade gullet at table level" so it at least according to the HSE, it shouldn't even *reach* the riving knife. http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/wis16.pdf

Of course, you don't often see that practice in the multitude of Internet woodworking videos, and indeed many manufacturer fence options (including Festool) extend the length of the table, so it's questionable how much of an issue it actually causes.
