Festool 65mm planer

What are your thoughts on the Festool 65mm for thinning down to the final thickness of hardwood (East Indian Rosewood) as opposed to running it through a drum sander about 15 times? Thickness reduction from 5mm to 2.5mm of a board approximately 500cm x 300cm 

Need to replace the drum sander at some stage but looking at £1200.00 new, may get a few more years out it if can use a plane. Can do it by hand but it's slow and need to spend time sharpening and setting up blades.

I have this planer and it is great for trimming doors etcetera, but in no way a replacement for something like a drum sander or a thicknesser. And not for wider boards also, that's asking for trouble, that's not going to be flat. Use it for wood no wider than 65 mm.

Remove bulk of material with the planer, then finishing pass on drum sander.
