I'm sure it was very informative- I have seen some of his videos online and they are always full of great tips.  I wish I would have known- I would have made the 4 hour trip.  I have never been to Acme- do you have contact information for them?

Regards,
Gerald

By the way- that looks like Danny Mack Hale to Steve's left- great Festool Rep!!!

It is indeed and yes, he's a great rep and resource. He did a GREAT demo of the Festool drills. SO good that he almost - ALMOST - convinced me that I should buy one!

Fortunately, I was able to let the urge pass...

[big grin]

Kudos to Acme Tools for hosting the demo and picking up lunch. And special thanks to Festool for making Steve Bace (pronounced 'base', BTW) available to do this.

I really enjoyed the day! It was fun meeting Steve, and I learned quite a bit. My favorite tip of the day may be a small one, but i found it to be another 'aha' moment:

It turns out that the Crown Stops for the Kapex can function as a table extension and vertical clamp fastening connector. Who knew?

More photos:

In this piece of plywood the two end Domino mortices were plunged 'correctly' while the middle one was forced. Notice the difference?

And here Steve shows the construction to Albert Einstein, who stopped in for the demo:

And (according to Danny himself) doing one of the things he does best - acting as a human clamp:

If you've read this far, here's your reward in the form of a little fun tidbit:

Danny and our own Shane Holland recently competed in a corporate sponsored 200 mile run through Napa Valley. Even though they'd never done ANYTHING like this before (and despite some of the other teams having professional coaches and year-long training programs) Team Festool came in at Fourth Place - a VERY respectable first time showing!

Congratulations Danny and Shane!!!

Thanks- I will have to stop by their store the next time I'm in the Cities.  I made the trip to Seven Corners when they had one of their shows, then they closed a year later.  How does Acme compare?

I actually grew up in and around Sioux Falls, and it is where I live still today.  It is a great place to live although our tool shows are on a much smaller scale- I really enjoy the Twin Cities but don't think I would move there since your taxes are so high. Look me up if you are ever in the area.

Danny Mack Hale has been making the trip every February for the tool show here, and always appreciate his insight.  No matter how much I learn about Festool he always teaches me something new.  BTW - he did talk me into two Festool drills- CXS and then the T18 set; and a Kapex, and a Carvex and.... I think he's my enabler for my addiction.

That's a great tip for the crown stop- might have to get one for my MFT.  Thanks for sharing the information and pics.

Regards,
Gerald
