I am building a paint mixing table for my daughter. I built a table frame and now am attaching a top. The top is a frame that will hold an 18x18”x 1/4” glass piece where she mixes paint. It also has some recessed space for jars for brushes.
The top frame is 18x24 on the inside made from 2.25”x.75” poplar. It will have two heights of plywood routed into the frame for the different heights needed.
My thought is to set the top on the frame and to use the domino 500 to cut through the table frame runners (may be the wrong term) and into the frame of the top. I would cut 28 deep. I then would push 6x40dominos through both holes. I would not glue but just have them tight.
The top is a bit of a working experiment and we aren’t sure if she will like the recessed area for the bottles so being able to take off the top at some time may be a benefit.
Just wondering if anyone had any concerned or thoughts.
As a note, one of my goals on some of these projects was to have to screws involved in any part of the joinery at all. If this works there would only be dominos and glue holding everything together.
I mocked up the table top for her and I have cut some examples of the top holding dominos to see if they would be easy and strong. It seemed to be both.
