Morning guys, we are going to have a Kapex in the shop today; are there specific features that y'all need shot of or short video of?

Timmy

Timmy, I think most people want to see the dust collection, how about a video of the Kapex making a cut with the focus on the dust collection.

Good idea, printed and on the top of the list.

My Festool Rep is in with the saw, I was going to video the "sales pitch" outlining the features, knobs, levers, you know.....anything Green.  I don't believe I have run across a "narrative" yet.... Yeah, or Nay?

The video Gary Katz did for McFeelys highlighted the "green" knobs/levers and their functions.

Kewl, won't spend time on that one.  Thanks dude!  I think I missed that...required reading from Mr. Katz!!!

See if you can show us the cut quality on some hard and soft woods. As well as the set up with the saw helper if you are able too.

Cheers
Ryan.

Hey Ryan,  Randy did some cuts this morning, the sawhelper is out for today, but I should have some stuff on that by the end of next week.  I can definitely show you the cuts.  I do have some 2x's in here and some cypress that will show the softer side of the Kapex.

I wouldn't mind some more info on the trenching capabilities, and the use of the Crown Moulding stops if they have them.

The Kapex is gone... :(  but we did get footage of all that was requested plus a bit more.  Exciting news to follow next week.  I will try and have the videos and pics up over the weekend.  Very nifty Saw!!!

I know I'm supposed to be sales pitchy but...in a nutshell, I didn't order me one today, but I did change my tune quite a bit. I really did expect to not to be sold on it very much but now that I've used it I don't think I'll be able to get through the rest of the year without selling off some of my other saws and replacing them with this.

Great review RW, thanks loads!

Where are the pics!!!

Great review RW!

I have been pretty excited about the KAPEX till I got wind of the price. WHen in Hendersen I gave it a good look and have to admit it truly is in a class of its own. Someday I'll own one.

He may not have ordered one...but he is buyin' one!!!  ;)  By Golly I wonder if I could make that a "term or condition of employment."

Brice this was certainly a focus of the camera yesterday.  Nearly all the footage we shot exemplifies the DC on the Kapex.  This was my favorite showing the DC of the Kapex, I felt like that wall behind a saw on a jobsite.

(edit) I don't know why there isn't a preview of this video below...but if you click the play button it will run.  ???

Mr. Video I need some Premiere CS3 help!!!

Sorry for the lack of audio on this one; here is a short narrative:

We took a big ole chunk of 8/4 Hard Maple to cut for Ryan to show the cut quality of a "hardwood".  At the beginning of the video, Randy had to adjust the hold-down because we were a bit wobbley (sp for Matt).  After the adjustment to the right, the hold-downs handled the board NO PROBLEM!..."look mom, no hands".  After the cut, I zoomed in on the laser line to show just how dead-on it is.  Dudes....dead-on is an understatement...right out of the box!

Sorry for the delay Ryan.  These are some shots of a Pine 2X6 and a piece of hard maple.  I tried to get in as close as I could for ya.  The maple is the same piece that we used on this video showing off the "laser beam".  (mini-me was right behind RW during the shot.)

I see saw marks on the maple, Timmy can you comment on the quality of those cuts. I know it could be the way the light is hitting the wood??

Brice you are something, saw marks. My saw would shoot a piece that thin across the room or just disintegrate it altogether!

You are right, you would be hard to work for. I guess you really want that 1300.00 to be worth it! ;)

I do not think the Kapex will make any better cuts than the Makita, if that's what you are looking at, maybe just with more finesse, that's it.

Brice, the cut quality is very nice.  There are some tangential rays running through the end grain.  There are some kerf marks in the end-cut, but nominal at best.

New pic, just under the 125k limit below.

I took an extra fine sanding sponge to it; a couple of light passes, and they are totally gone.

Thanks for demoing the trenching :)  I'm really starting to appreciate the apparent precision of the saw...I guess I should expect nothing less from a festool.

Did you find the configuration of the saw base to be awkward?  The overall size of the base seems small (short), and there appears to be really large  gaps between rotating portion of the base and the fixed wings (compared to other saws like my Bosch).  I'd be worried about stability of cuts with short pieces of wood from what I see in the pictures of the saw.

Any comments from the Henderson dream team?
