Hi,

I am interested in the Festool MFS, which I realize is not available in NA.  Are dealers in the UK permitted to sell and ship to NA (Canada) ?

Thank you.

Dealers are not supposed to ship.  I did manage to buy one thru Amazon - fulfilled by Amazon UK.  Also bought something else green this way.  Both even came with free shipping!

Good Luck.

WoodPeckers has a product that looks similar and I have always wanted to ask if it performs a similar function to the Festool MFS.

WP Variable Router Jig

Could you do the same with a Shape Origin except with a lot more options?

Like Peter, I found a MFS 400 that popped up on Amazon and shipped free from Amazon UK. Expensive though. When Woodpeckers has a sale, their version might be a better way to go. Heck, even without a sale it might be a better way to go.

European businesses selling to a USA end customer can take off the VAT (16-27%). Most advertised prices on consumer oriented websites do include the VAT.

You can also have a private person ship it to you, but he can't deduct the VAT.

Shipping across the Atlantic is usually absurdly expensive though.

Thanks everyone for your responses.  I didn’t realize WP made a similar product.  Looks fine to me.  Although the next tool on my want list, is the Shaper Origin.  So perhaps I can hang tight until I collect a few more A/R.

Thanks again.

Brian

FWIW, the pieces in the Woodpecker version are both thicker and wider.  The thickness will reduce your depth of cut but only by a little. Also the largest rail doesn’t have any measuring scales on it.

I have both and usually use the Festool set. Having one tool for all your adjustments is convenient, I like their clamping brackets better, and I often use it for routing circles with the pivot point and their “orbital cutter” that the copy ring goes into. Being thinner and narrower, it is easier to handle as well.

If I didn’t have the MFS setup, however, I’d definitely be using the Woodpecker unit much more

Jeff, any plans to release a rolling stabilizing cutout for the interior like the Festool MFS has?

This is the first I've seen that part. I don't think that feature was part of the package when in was AINA. I'll show that to the engineering department. I certainly see the value of it.

Jeff, ask them to consider something that works with common US routers (as well as Festool). I believe the one supplied with the MFS only works with certain Festool routers.

Huh? The part that sticks magnetically to the copying ring? How would that be specific to certain Festool routers ??

Which part exactly?  The black part in this picture?

I didn't think the black part was magnetic, it simply slid over the end of a copy ring in 24, 27, 30, or 40mm sizes.
