Just finished up a little project and used festool mpa 5010 for the first time. Pretty impressed with the finish, came out looking like a sheet of glass.

What was the finish? And could you share how far you went with sanding pad/grit before polishing…
Looks great.

What he said... [big grin]

That's a really nice finish and some details would be nice.  [smile]  Along with being smooth, it's flat.

Also curious what this will be used for?

I used oil based brushable watco lacquer and didn't thin it at all.. More because it was a newbie mistake but when I seen how it was drying I figured it might help with building coats... didn't sand between coats, I did 4 pretty thick coats then sanded with festool granat  400,500,800 then 1000 grit on  my ets ec 125/3 followed by  buffing with the ro 125 and sheep skin with the mpa 5010 in rotex mode

The star really isn't for anything specific.  I'm a Origin guy and this was my first attempt at an inlay project. It was more just to try doing it.

[member=71079]Sbradley0911[/member] that is impressive work, both the Origin work and the finish!  Thanks for sharing.

That's impressive work for a first Origin project. I just got mine a couple of weeks ago and have been way to busy to really devote much time to it. I have done some simple text engraving, a couple of inlays of just circles, and helix drilled a few holes for barrel hinges.

Oh no not my first Origin project... first time spraying, yeah I took me a few weeks to get time using Origin when I first got it as well.  The fun part is learning the different softwares out there ac making your own stuff

So far, most of what I have done has been "on board", but I have been tinkering with Inkscape.

Never used inkscape myself I've mainly used fusion 360 but now I also have affinity designer and most recently just started using Adobe illustrator. Only made the plunge for illustrator because I found a lifetime subscription for only $50 vs the going rate of about $15 a month.  I've found it easier when trying to follow along with the shaper tutorials and sessions when I'm using the same software as they are.  They all do the same thing pretty much except fusion being a full 3d program and the others only 2d. It's just a little easier following the commands and tooling when it's the same as what you see them doing in their videos.

Say... where did you find that?

[member=41832]WastedP[/member]  can't find the exact site that I got it from but just Google AI lifetime subscription  and theres plenty of sites that have it.  It'll be a digital download.. I was a little skeptical at first but it's worked fine since I got it and no BS charges on my CC is what I was more concerned with.

The problem with so-called "lifetime" subscriptions (licenses) is that the "lifetime" is likely not what you think. I learned this years ago with two different things. The first was a Tivo brand DVR. It came with a lifetime subscription as an option when purchasing. But the lifetime has nothing to do with you (the purchaser) it is the lifetime of the unit itself. So that advertised lifetime is actually just the estimated life-expectancy of about 5 years. When the machine is no-longer serviceable, your subscription expires with it.
The other was a computer program that came in the form of a store-bought CD, from back when that was a thing. Music-match jukebox. The first update offered a lifetime upgrade for a slightly higher price, sounds good at first glance. Eventually though they just quit supporting it in favor of some newer product, and you're out. Again lifetime having nothing to do with the user.

[member=58857]Crazyraceguy[/member]  I hear ya but if I get 5 years out of this lifetime subscription that I paid $50 for I'm way ahead on the deal... I'm pretty sure AI is about $15 a month so if it shits out a few years down the road I'd feel I got my $ worth lol but that's just me

If it sounds too good to be true...

Most of those super-discount places are, as you mentioned, looking for suckers with open credit card accounts that they can use for future purchases.  There are ways to get temporary card numbers to use at places online that you might think are scams, but the more serious concern is: where did they get the license key in the first place to be able to sell it?

Most of these are stolen or hacked, and could theoretically be shut down by Adobe (or Microsoft, or any of the other major players that get ripped off in this space) at any time.  For that matter, they could be student or other bulk licenses stolen from universities or by other means.

YMMV, etc.

Inkscape is currently "good enough" for me, but if I ever felt limited by it, I would seek out something else.

Again all good points,  I just think I would have had an issue by now as far as my CC goes. I guess I'll drive it till the wheels fall off and  get something else when that happens... not going to get rid of a program that's working completely fine just because of where and how much I got it for..

I guess if I bought a brand new TS 75 for a hundred bucks in a parking lot, I wouldn't get rid of it if it worked completely fine.

I'm not knocking anyone for their thoughts and maybe had I thought any of those things before hand maybe I would have second thoughts but it's a prior late for that now and no point in my eyes getting rid of it until I have an issue with the program or any issues with my CC.... I really didn't imagine that this would become the focal point of the post which started with sharing a few pics of something I made lol

Oh, I wasn't suggesting anything nefarious or that it was a bad deal, just that it may not last, even though it's called lifetime. Sometimes legitimate companies do things like this to stir up interest or to get you to upgrade later if you go beyond it's limitations.
