Welp, the long awaited and much rumored Festool Planex Long Reach Drywall Sander has arrived.  Guess what, it's only a few weeks away.  That's right, March 1st it'll be on the road to you.  Accepting preorders now.  We have the sander, the CT 36 AC Autoclean dust extractor and all the goodies up on the site.  Abrasives to come.

Have you guys checked out the video Shane posted:

See the harness setup?  Freakin brilliant.  I had not seen that before.  Don't think it was available in Europe?

Will this be affected by the price increase on March 1 or will it still be $1000.00?  What about the Auto Clean CT and accessories?

It launches on March 1st. That is the 2012 catalog price.

Not to stray off topic...is anything else launching March 1?

I was at dinner and the iphone didn't want to participate with some forum responses.  I got home and was going to ask Shane what the answer was, but seems like he already answered those questions for you guys.

I just read the notes quickly but it didnt make sense to me.

The CT auto clean does not come with HEPA filter because of the auto-clean feature.  But can I get a HEPA filter?  I'm running CT22s and got a drywall job coming up so I could see getting the planex and using the CT AC for other purposes.  I just don't like the idea of a one-off vaccum that is missing either the HEPA filter or has to use some special bag.

-  is HEPA filter available?
- is there a auto clean bag/poly bag available?
- can the auto clean cycle be turned off to make it a "regular" DC for use with say my router or planer?

The AutoClean functionality will not work with a HEPA filter. The CT AC should not be used for RRP work under any circumstances because it does not have a HEPA filter.

The CT AC uses a plastic liner, not a bag.

Yes, it can be used in AutoClean mode or "normal" non-AutoClean mode. There is a dial for that setting which also controls how often the AutoClean functions.

Wow you are up late :)

Obviously my purpose is not to override recommendations but I'm wanting to know if I can use regular CT 36 bags in the CT auto clean.  If I can turn off the auto clean feature then installing a HEPA filter should not cause problems if i am going to be using it with say an OF2200 or the 850 planer??

Other than the extra functions how different is the auto clean model from a CT 36??  It would be a severe limitation if I had to buy a $750 DC that can only be used with the planex and it cannot be used with my other festools.

Thanks for the quick answers.

I fell asleep after watching "The Fountain" last night.  Shane wins.

Bill, those are great questions.  I wish I had experience with the two machines and could answer them intelligently.  I'd bet the filter doesn't fit, forget about just turning off the AC function, there likely isn't the correct receptacle for it.  Again, just guessing.  As for the "how different is it from a regular CT 36," again, don't know, but I'd presume it's just a CT 36 with an Auto Clean function that you can turn on / off...just no HEPA.  Should work just as well as any other CT.
