If you have a need, buy and try.  No idea when a new model is coming to the US at this point in time.

From the sounds of it it shouldn't be to long before the Planex Easy comes out in North America, I haven't been able to play with it but friends have seen it and depending on the price it sounds like it could be a very good option for many. The most obvious difference is the fixed length, so no sanding high ceilings or small closets. It is supposed to be lighter and have a different sanding pad that pulls the centre of the paper in making it less "squirrelly". Where the planex really shines is ceilings and most are 8-9' so the Easy configuration is perfect for that so long as the head pivots as easily as the regular planex.
