Trying to finalize my shop organization I just ordered and received two rolling bases. They are NOT at all like my older ones and I think I’m disappointed. My Systainers just fasten at one point, in the front with the rotating clip, right? Am I missing something? I cannot see how these will work to “lift” the stack for loading. I’m feeling dumb or the designers were dumb!

There have been several versions over the years.  As far as the lifting goes ................  the latch / attachment only needs to hold the weight of the base.

The rear feet of the Systainers hook into the base and the T secures the front, just like inter-systainer connections.

That is not entirely true when one uses the SYS-BASE screwed onto something ... like a trailer base. Then the "old" BASE was way more secure.

The old base "clips" were even designed in such a way they cleanly break off when overloaded to be replaced, instead of breaking the base. Ask not ask how I know ...

When used as a cart, the T-Loc version is IMO better as it is sufficient and way-easier to connect/disconnect.

And one should not use the BASE to secure a stack to a floor. Even the old base could not hold the forces with more than 50-60 cm high stack ... so it is kinda good it looks flimsier than it is ... for idios like me not to get ideas.

It’s confirmed - I’m dumb! Will go back to the shop and take a closer look. I still think I like the older version - just my opinion.

It was amazing how quickly the older version sold out when they were discontinued. I found a used Tanos cart on Craigslist and the seller said he'd been swamped with calls looking to buy.

What version are we talking about?

The middle one... for sure they sold out. Cause they are more compact than the current abomination.

The middle cart, for sure. I have two of those and a Sys Roll, and I'd buy another cart in a heartbeat. At the time I thought they'd be available for a few months at least, but within a week or two they were all scooped up!

They are still sold in Makita colors. See Makita P-83886

And there is the Hikoki/Hitachi 402543

I used to have some of the original dollies (RB-SYS?) but sold them as I found they took up too much space.

I made my own dollies that have the same footprint as a Systainer itself - for me they work well as I can keep a whole row of stacks of Systainers tightly stood together - I think I have made 12 now (which probably suggests I have too many Systainers…

Of course they are a compromise of compactness vs rollability and stability (so they wouldn’t be great for rolling around rough jobsites) - but around my couple of workshops they are just right. I chose 50mm wheels based on trying out a few alternatives.

I would pay the money if the Festool dollies were right for me, but I have saved over £800 in today’s terms 😊

I made a simple template to rout out most of the recesses, but a bit of chiselling is involved - the aluminium retaining bars are bevelled on the underside to match the rear feet of the Systainers.

I have been meaning to add some of the little retaining latches on the front as per the latest Festool model, but I don’t really need this - it would just mean you could pick up the whole stack plus the dolly. (Plus I still have on the list to spray paint them all in Festool/Tanos grey).

Cheers

Yes, but that is way more cumbersome to attach.
