Festool TS55/Kapex Blades

Thank you for the info on Leitz! I don't have any blades that need sharpening just yet, but I expect I'll have a least one quite soon. This info will help.

Any idea what the charge is for a TS75 standard blade?

Send the blades back to Leitz. Seeing as they made them, I'm pretty sure they can sharpen them.  [wink]

Actually I know they can sharpen them, they sharpen all of my blades.

I sent out;

1- 60 tooth Kapex blade

6- TS 55 48 tooth blades

1-TS 55 28 tooth blade

1- Festool 19mm mortising router bit.

Turn around time was 5 days. Cedar Lake In., to Grands Rapids MI., sharpened, and back in my hands.

They'll sharpen anyones blade, including Forrest, better than Forrest does.

Here is their locations section of their website, call the number, press 1. If you trust the post office a a medium priority mail box held all of the above blades in their original sleeves. Leitz returns my blades to me in the original sleeves.

I know someone who sent Tenneryu blades to Leitz, they came back with the tooth geometry hand written on the blade. They really do know what they are doing.

Thanks for the info on Leitz , how are their prices on sharpening ?

All of the above with return shipping was $100.00.

I've yet to have a TS-75 blade sharpened, no idea what it would cost to have one sharpened by Leitz.

Just as a follow up, I visited Burns Tools website and submitted a question regarding sharpening whereas Shane had posted that they could sharpen Festool blades.  Below is the information received.  Following receipt of the response I did request permission to quote the reply.

Submitted:  "There has been a thread going on the forum regarding the difficulties or inability to sharpen Festool saw blades and I would love to talk to someone so that I can set the record straight whereas I understand you guys can sharpen them. I am one of the Moderators and obviously a Festool Fan, so there isn't a hidden agenda in this request. Regards, Peter Halle"

Received:  "Hi Peter,
We have no problem sharpening the Festool blades, and do a lot of them. I fact, we’ve got one guy in Chicago that buys Kapex blades from us and has us sharpen them BEFORE he ever uses them, because the cut is that much better coming off our machine than out of the box.

In regards to other sharpening facilities capabilities, it depends on the type of indexing that their machines have.  The blades are vari toothed, so people need to make sure that they are set to the longest index gap. Also grinding stroke is an issue if you are not doing relief grinding, you can only grind through the shortest shoulder length, or you will hit the face behind.  We do not have a problem with them, but we need to be aware of the issues that the vari tooth presents. Although it is more work on our end, we do not charge any extra for these blades.

Hope that helps! Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Sincerely,

Zach Burns

Hope that this helps.

Just received two blades back from Leitz (NC). Kapex, and an Amana rip blade for the Delta table saw. $15 and $11, including shipping. I have no technical skill to measure sharpness.  Kapex seems just like it did when new. Amana is producing a better cut.
