I had directed a couple of members to contact us for support on Monday. Due to severe weather in the Indianapolis area and a travel advisory being issued, our offices will be closed with plans to reopen on Tuesday.

Sorry for the inconvenience. If you had intentions to contact us, please feel free to email me your details and I'll have someone call you ASAP.

Wind chill is only supposed to be -41 here in the morning.  [unsure]

Pretty bad in Indy too with wind chill, -25 to -40, with a foot or more of snow on the ground. Anyone working outdoors tomorrow be safe and stay warm.

Just for some contrast, C50 in parts of Central Australia, but in the Continent's far South East only C 17 today. Apart from two days before Christmas, the heat of summer is yet to arrive here. Even have some light winter clothes on today and we had heavy rain yesterday.

Stay warm up there.   [smile]

C50 = 122F
C17 = 62F

I had seen headlines about the heatwave down under and fires. Hope things get milder for you guys.  [smile]

It's supposed to be -20 F here tomorrow (-29 C for those of you who drive on the wrong side of the road  [big grin]). And that's just the temp, not the wind chill! The governor ordered all public schools closed. I even got an email from a local grocery chain that will be closing several hours early so their employees don't have to drive home at midnight in the bitter cold.

I think I may go crawl in my freezer, since it will be 25 degrees warmer in there than outside.

Welcome to my world. It's been a deep freeze here for at least a month regularly hitting -40 with the wind. This morning it said -50°C with the wind, and last week we hit -40 without the wind

Yes, but it's a DRY cold....

[tongue]

Just don't go licking any flagpoles!

Starting a new job tomorrow at a company advising employees to work from home due to cold temps.  Wouldn't surprise me if it's is 3 or so new his and our respective managers.  Should be interesting.

-25 and you guys close up shop?

We don't quit working outside till it's -15.

Closing schools at -20? Wah

Guys on the oil fields in nd work in -40 a lot.

It's been in the upper 70's/low 80's in So Cal  [big grin]....but i have to go to NY on Tuesday for a few days... :(

Hope you stay warm and safe..

I miss that I did not take Festool classes when in Fort Wayne... certainly do not miss the weather.

I do not remember a single case that we have someone shut the office due to frost or snow.
Young children are not enrolled in school, if the temperature is below -30C for several days.

Stay cool down there!  We vacationed in Utah this summer, and in Moab (and nearby Arches National Park) it was 106F.  That was almost unbearable, so I am not sure how bad 122F must feel.  I do know that I set a personal record in the amount of water I consumed while hiking.  Yes, we hiked, but short hikes.  Had to go back and refill water bottles pretty often.

The cold wave in the USA is pretty incredible.  I could say "North America", but I think cold waves are a given in Canada.  [wink]

Paragraph from an article in  the Melbourne (Australia) Newspaper 'The Age' this morning, Monday AEST,

"Polar vortex pulls US into vicious cold .

.".................
The vicious cold snap that has hit much of the US has been borne south from the Arctic by what is known as a polar vortex. It could cause some of the coldest temperatures in recent history in parts of the country. It was predicted that in [size=14pt]
Minnesota over Sunday night the wind chill might go as low as minus 52 degrees, a temperature the National Weather Service called "historic and dangerous".

. .........

Contrasted with this article, also this morning in same Newspaper, first two two paragraphs -
"Blistering heat that formed over the Nullarbor at the end of December and continues over parts of inland Australia smashed temperature records and was a “highly significant” event, the Bureau of Meteorology said.

In a special climate statement released late on Monday, the bureau said the latest heatwave, while less extensive and prolonged as the record-breaking hot spell to start 2013, was still a remarkable event. The report comes just days after the bureau confirmed last year was Australia’s hottest in more than a century of records, easily beating 2005.

And later in the same article -
"Sydney and Melbourne largely dodged the extreme heat with mostly mild and even cool conditions during the past week, and more such weather is forecast for both cities for the coming week. "

So it sounds like them guys from Oz stole all of our warm weather!!
When I worked in the oil field in northern Michigan years ago, I had one day at -44 actual and could only work 10-15 minutes before getting back in the truck. My house had ice sheets on the inside walls and corners!! You could hear the remaining sap and moisture in the wall studs snapping and popping. Had the wood stove glowing orange, the oil furnace running full tilt but still the house was cold. Supposed to be around 15 tonight here in southern Louisiana.

Due to travel advisories being extended, snow drifts and wind creating white out conditions, our offices will remain closed tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Is it considered cruel to leave some of my Festools that are not at the job to suffer through the cold in my van. Hopefully by Wednesday when I get back to work they are not frozen in place.
