Festool your boring

Am I only the one who sees new releases as mostly boring and the new products as merely slight changes and add ons
This years new items
Smooth hoses , and blutooth add ons that have all ready been invented by other companies
Most other items over the last few years have all been the same or niche items that no one needs
Don’t get me wrong I like Festool, it’s just not very exciting anymore

Do you have any specific needs, or suggestion on new products? I'm sure Festool would love to hear you on innovative new products. Personally i'm a green when it comes to Festool tools  [big grin]

It’s just that recently things like extension leads built into systainers or lights on stands just seem like very expensive unnecessary items that other much cheaper versions from alternate manufacturers do the same, the latest cordless sanders are mediocre when used on powdered filler, the latest kapex and other products have underwhelmed a lot of users I’ve spoke to
A lot of the products in the last few years have just been rebadged Protool tools or designs remarkably similar to the likes of Fein or Mirka
It just seems there’s no wow anymore.
The Festool wish list on this forum always asks for things like impact drivers, bigger more reliable kapex etc, etc

With a price increase coming in about 20 days, I doubt this phrase was ever spoken at HQ.

I agree that lately the new products being released have been kinda boring.  I think a lot of other manufacturers have stepped up their games.  Without new innovations, having prices that are 2x or 3x more on comparable tools, and yearly increases for older products could be a future problem in my opinion.

There's still a number of NAINA Festools that I would love to see get introduced over here.  Not sure if they've done the market research and decided that there's insufficient demand, or if there are issues with UL certification, but I wouldn't hesitate to get the Belt Sander, the Rustofix, or the DSC if they were available.

I know De-Walt did some shonky Bluetooth capabilities a year or so ago but as yet I've not seen any other companies that have made Bluetooth battery connection between cordless tools and extractors, do you have a link?

The price increase are ridiculous given the lack of innovation over the past 4-5 years.  A lot of products should actually be having their priced reduced given the R&D was paid for many years ago.

The price increase have insured my next orbital sander purchases will be Mirka’s.  The EC models have no real performance advantage to justify going green rather than yellow.

Well there have been some recent  products worth considering - HK55:75 and KS60. But agree that technology such as battery/drill demand/load communication such as new AEG range will be years away with Festool.

Since when is boring bad with tools?  I built up a solid collection to Festools over the past 4 years but haven’t bought anything substantial in probably 6+ months.

I don’t look for exciting tools. I look for solid well built reliable tools. Do I like other things that are flashy?  You bet! 

The reason you see the newer products that might make you scratch your head, is to expand Festool into larger verticals. If you are a paint guy, there is a Festool light to make your life easier. You are an auto painter, get some of the Festool air tools in your shop. You put out quality tools across the board, it is easy to land and expand.

Ahh, kind of fair enough but I can't really complain too hard if Festools cutting edge products are only as advanced as Makitas cutting edge products.

Well the other tool companies make things like cordless caulking guns, reciprocating saws, leaf blowers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, cordless table saws, cordless miter saws and the list goes on.

Festool makes nice tools too. Most folks seem to have an addiction over the Systainers they come in too.

There is no one tool brand, and there is no one battery platform to stick with, let alone voltage.

A Sander?  What about an Electric toothbrush?  Does your pulse race faster over a new vacuum cleaner?  Do you become turgid with excitement over a new (expensive) accessory like an Electrolux-type hose on your new extractor vac?  Do you feel frisson over adding a battery to your sander?

Didn't think so.  The things that excite me are usually living:  a new grandchild, a puppy or a kitten.  To be fair, perhaps, after a decade or two of an old one, a new car or motorcycle might be pretty exciting.  My first house was pretty exciting too, as was my first holiday home purchase.  My first day at kinder, secondary, uni, retirement.  Plus of course that incredible hormonal rush of one's first love.  They're the sort of things that generate those butterflies within.

But tools?  Honestly folks, some of you need to get out more.

Hmm, i think you missed the point completely and jumped straight to judgement. Atleast you managed to sound like a thesaurus while you did so. Im sure were all inspired.

I agree op. But im glad to see some competition arise in festools niche market. Its about time imho.

It has been boring, but I'm struggling to find whether that is good or bad. Unlike most other brands they haven't made their current or past range look or feel outdated by constantly releasing cosmetically updated versions or changing the battery systems.
Their stuff that was good 8 years ago, still is, and they haven't given me a reason to change.
So I'm happy it doesn't change too fast, in fact since I have been using Festool, nothing I have was yet made obsolete by making a newer incompatible version.
But yeah I'd also love innovations on the scale of the domino every year, but that is just not possible.

Actually YES...my wife, not myself. She has this thing for Miele vacuums . We already have 2 of them and she now wants to purchase a third one.  [eek]  She always uses the excuse that because we have 2 dogs and 3 cats that shed a lot, we need a new vacuum to cope.  [crying]

When I started with Festool shortly after Bob Marino had started selling them there were quite a few items I thought of as really innovative. I started with the track saw and dust collector which were quite a step up from sliding a circular saw along side a straight edge with no dust collection. The MFT was next and quickly became a vital compact useful tool in my compact workshop and had no competition. Think sanders were next and the reduction in vibration is what drew me to them. I picked up the routers after that and they offered features like dust collection and accuracy I was not able to achieve with my Dewalts. Domino of course.
Well now when Festool releases new tools I just don’t see the innovation - for my needs as a hobbiest. They have released some industry specific items like the drywall sanders and I bet they are wonderful to use but I have no need. Or the vacuum system or edge bander. It has been quite a while since Festool has had a new tool that I just had to have. I did recently purchase the new battery operated sanders as they fit a need. Sure would like to see Festool get their innovation team back working on creating more wonderful new tools if possible.
