Finally got around to finishing a couple of privacy fences (not including the gates) behind the house, one for our side and one for the patio of the granny unit.

I decided to use 6x6 posts with 2x stretchers to "capture" the rolls of bamboo (available at home depot). I actually pocket hole jointed the stretchers between the posts, which was lots of fun on the "curved" section! Had to cut those things nice and precise. I used gorilla poly glue to insert the pocket plugs and the RO 90 made quick order of sanding them invisible.

The bamboo sections only came in 4x6 (for the small fence) and 6x8 for the curved section. Since we wanted a step down design, I had to cut much of the bamboo roles. I contemplated using the bandsaw (delta with 6" extension) to cut the roll at once, but could imagine too many scenarios where that turned out bad.

So instead I rolled them flat on some 2x supports and used the TS 55. I actually clamped it to the ends and had my two boys (after much protesting) help me to keep it straight on one side and manage to cutoffs and hose management. After a couple though I felt comfortable enough and was able to do it alone.

If I had to do over, I'd put the 2x supports on the ground so the cutoffs didn't fall so much.

Cool project.  I like the contrast between the posts and the bamboo.

I am definitely going to bookmark this as a project to copy in the future.

Turned out really nice!  For a second, I thought you were making blow guns, you ninja.

Ha! What do you think the kids did with the  cutoffs! They made light sabers too....

I did a project very similar last year. I wanted to cover an ugly block wall. Started with horizontal green studs blue screwed to blocks. Then attached bamboo panels to green studs with a space between them for four by four posts. I actually mortised the sides of the posts for the horizontal 2X4 on top and 2x6 on bottom. Then, moving from left to right, attached the first post to the green studs with screws concealed in mortise, slipped in the horizontals, then another post, etc. With this method, there were NO visible fasteners.

And another shot with the pee-burned grass replaced with gravel for a Japanese dry garden ( karesansui) look.

Nice! What (if anything) did you use to treat the bamboo?

Nice!

I get a bit of a "Karate Kid, Mr Miyagi" emotion going on looking at these fence panels.

Kev.

The bamboo panels came with a "painted-on" finish which has already discolored after a year. I think there is a place in San Diego that sells this paint stuff to recoat.
