Looking at buying new filter bags for a vacuum I just bought used.

I have read where the paper bags for the 22 prematurely break causing a mess. I have also read the new fleece ones decrease suction.

Help!  Does anyone have any recent experience with these bags. I will be using it just for sawdust as I have another dust collector.

The Festool USA site still has the  paper listed with a price. Not sure if they are still available. But go with the new fleece/ cloth.  The price difference is not that much and one torn bag will change your mind about getting the paper.

I have not noticed a suction difference. Nothing to measure it with but performance seems the same.

Never happened to me.

Never noticed any difference between the two types.

Festool says the new ones keep a high suction for longer, because whenever you turn the vac off after use, the bag collapses, freeing the dust cake from the pores in the cloth. Maybe it is true, but I never noticed it in real use, whether it's better or worse.

The fleece type bags for the CT-22 are not self cleaning like those for the newer models.  They are more puncture resistant than the original all paper bags.  I know I had plenty of punctures - not blaming Festool - I suck up a lot of things that might have sharp edges - with the original bags.  None with the new style.

CT22 dust extractors have worked so well for me since I bought my first CT22 in January 2006 that I have expanded my fleet of them. Although in 2010 when I was building my current cabinet shop I knew the CT26 et al were coming, I continued to buy new CT22. Then after my new shop opened I bought several slightly used CT22 from friends who wanted the latest model.

Personally I never had a failure with the original paper bags, yet as soon as the fleece bags were available that is all I currently buy. One of my cabinet makers did have a paper bag failure. We all strongly suspect that bag was compromised during installation.

None of us find any reduction in suction using the fleece bags, but there has always been more than enough suction from the CT22 for our needs. I own both style hand planers, but seldom use them. For the TSxx, Kapex, routers and Domino we use the CT22 full blast. For sanding there is always a lot of suction in reserve.

Yes, I do own two CT36 which I bought new in 2010. Those are only used on customer sites and we keep them looking brand new. Otherwise I like only needing to stock one size of bag.

I've only ever had one bag break on me and I'm pretty sure it's because I pushed on it too hard the wrong way when installing it, causing the paper to rip near the plastic port.  The CT22 also has filters as a safety backup in the event a bag does tear.
