First time in ten years that I got bit by a saw.  I was cutting crown returns and I got my hand in the bottom of the blade as the saw was going up, guard coming down and blade slowing down.

The doctor offered me pretty (15 stiches) or quick and easy.

I took quick and easy and got 4 staples.

Sorry to hear that. Hope it heals well.

I actually made an appointment last month to have my hand sliced open tomorrow. Surgery on a trigger finger. Fun. At least it's a few days enforced rest.

Hope you are comfortable with the care you received in the ER.  sometimes folks get stitched up with serious damage underneath, undiscovered initially.  Good to have a hand surgeon consultation before it is too late to repair.  Your hands are so important because you only have two and woodworkers need both of them working.

It all works, I am sure I will lose a bit of feeling but, wont hurt so much when I smack it with a hammer.

The son of a friend of ours cut his hand with a "utility" knife last week.  His mother (our friend) used to be an ambulance driver and when he came back from ER (les urgences here in France) she said "lucky you didn't cut a tendon.  The next day he couldn't move his index finger - so she took him back to ER - he HAD cut a tendon.  I don't want to blame the people in ER in our local hospital - it's a madhouse and I'm sure they do their best, but every time I have to go there I remember my trip to ER in Southampton, Long Island.  They wouldn't look at me till they had a credit card number, but after that the treatment was absolutely "Festool" class.  I had fifteen stitches in and around my eyebrow and I don't even have a scar.

I know health care is an issue in the States, but I think its an issue everywhere.
