Do to downsizing I'm trying to get rid of my collection of FWW and FHB Mag's starting from day one issue one. Ending 2008 ish. No takers- any suggestions? Anyone in the Sf Bay Area (Marin County) want them. Schools don't, thrift stores don't. It seems my only option is save the first year of each and recycle the rest.

I guess it's save the first year and recycle the rest.

Another choice is to list them in the classifieds of both those magazines.  I am not at home, but I think you can even list those for free(?)

I gave them to a friend at work who also does WW. I also purchased the entire FWW volume on DVD so I could still have it as a reference.
Did the same for Wood mag. I then scanned all other wood mag articles that I wanted to keep them digitally.

Really reduced clutter a lot (I had collections of 6 different WW mags). I just wish I'd done it BEFORE we moved 1000 miles cross country...

You might try FreeCycle

Hi Fritter,

I've been wanting to scan all the various articles I've ripped out of magazines as well, but my all in one printer (which is a new model) still takes foreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever to scan an article.  Do you have a scanner you used that works faster than my version of Gutenbergs original printing press?  [blink]

Yes, I specifically picked one for scanning. I have an Epson Workforce 610 (or something like that). It has both a doc feeder and flat bed scanning
option, and the biggest feature is that it will scan straight to PDF or JPG on a thumb drive plugged into the front. This skips all the computer based software which can make scanning such a pain. I think there is a way to have that scan go to your computer HD, but I haven't spent the time trying to figure it out.

So for multi-page articles, I scan one page at a time with the mag folded flat. The bummer is they go into separate PDF files.

SO then I take the drive over to the mac, and I run an "Automator" script which I've written that picks up selected pdf files (I manually select them in the finder) and concatenate them into a single PDF file. The other thing you'll need to do is rotate every other page after they've been scanned upside down, but that can be done by opening the PDF file in the preview app.

If you use Windoze, I can't help you on that...  [cool]

I don't know why you guys are scanning the stuff when it's on the DVD.

The ones I scan are from mags not available on DVD (say like "Woodwork" mag, etc).
