Finishing DVDs

A couple of months ago I came across a web site featuring some old timer on finishing.  I could swear that I bookmarked the site but can't find it and I don't recall the man's name.  He's offering a set of DVDs (9 comes to mind) just on finishing furniture.  The price was over $150 which I didn't have to spare at the time. 

Does anyone know who I'm talking about or the URL to his site.  Oh, I almost forgot, he has a thick southern accent.

I don't think this was the man.  For one, I remember him being older, probably in his 60s......... with a thick Southern accent.  I also remember that he had several videos on his site.  I watched them all and the man was very thorough.    I checked every link on Neil's site and saw no evidence of any onsite videos.

If I don't get any other answers, I will buy Neil's DVD on your recommendation.

Charles has quite a few free, but more brief online videos.  His style is a bit different than what we typically see.  To me he comes accross as one woodworker talking to another.  His website is in transition right now, so you might need to search for those online videos.  I suggest you view a few to see if you like his presentations before you buy.

I don't know about the 60's part but the souther has it right.  I get charles newsletter and have several of his vids.  He just sent an e-mail that he's got a friend that is is some dire straits and is offering his vids at half price with the proceeds to go to his friend.  I just ordered his finishing a-z at half off and a couple others.  I can reccomend his doors and drawers as well.  He's down to earh and you don't get a norm 30 minute show his stuff is multi cd.  The doors and drawers was 6 dvds and the finishing is 10. 
 
I guess you have to be on his newsletter to receive the discount.  I just checked and the cart price was the regular price.  I'll sign up for the newsletter and see if it'll save me.  Then I can order the other set you mentioned.

That's the guy.  As soon as I saw that puss and heard the voice...........    I listened to the advice he gave about knocking off the edges at the URL you sent.  This guy sure knows a helluva lot more about woodworking and finishing than I do.......... any day.

Here is the link to the site with the 1/2 off videos.  I got the finishing a-z for 84 thats a 10 dvd set.  I also got the bed plans.  I have several of his.  His doors and drawers are great (6 dvd set) and I also bought the sugar chest plans.  He's from a part of the country I'm from and seems like a down to earh guy.  You definately get your money's worth instead of 30 minutes.

Wow!    Thanks for the URL.  I checked every inch of both of his sites that I could but couldn't find anything referencing a sale.  Time to spend some more money!

I'm a little familiar with your neck of the woods, having been on Skyline Dr many times and have dined in Luray and visited the caverns.  A cousin of mine married a gal who's southwest of you.  I know the area but don't remember the name of the town, one of the consequences of aging.
 
No problem glad I could help with the vids.  His newsletter is very good and thats how I got the notice.  I'm from farther on down in Roanoke (actually a little farther but most don't know past roanoke).  I love them hokies go VT!  Spent a good bit of time riding the harley on the blue ridge parkway.  Man I miss that area! 
 
I use to ask the question where does Salem end and Roanoke begin! I lived behind Mill mountain.  I could see the back of the star in the evening.  Its a shame my company sold off our business and closed the plant.  I was lucky enough that they moved me to STL and now back at least to the east coast and PA.  I'd love to get a bit more south some day. 
 
Thanks to you fellows, I bought  $444 worth of fine video for just $222 plus the $15 shipping.  I won't tell the wife about the savings or she'll want to spend that on something frivolous........... like our granddaughter!

I lived on a small street called Luther Lane.  Head out of Salem and turn left at what was called "Bert's" (formerly "The Rice Paddy", I think) and head back over the Roanoke River about three miles.  I was working at GE on contract at the time, and it was a beautiful commute.

There was a cabin that I remember in particular that I passed every day, close to the house where they hung pigs on the front porch after they slaughtered and gutted them. It was made out of logs that were vertical.  They added an extension, using plywood and painted alternating dark brown (almost black) and white stripes, matching the logs and caulking on the cabin.  There was an out house with an orange extension cord hung like a clothes line from the house.  They had a satellite dish, but that got repossessed.  There were a couple of junked cars in the yard.  Nice.

Now I'm sitting in Seaview, WA, which is close to Astoria, OR.  I like it here, but sometimes my thoughts stray back to those good old days.  Your comments triggered some good memories.  Thanks.

RW, I know where thats at.  I don't know how much of GE is left there, but I do know the cabin.  You have some pretty country out your way. The farthest west I've been is South Dakota, but would love to visit.  You must not mind the rain! Take care

Glad to see that you were able to take advantage of the special sale.  I don't think you will regret your purchase.  You will see that Charles Neil thoroughly covers the subject.  He is someone who has skills and experience to share.  Just don't try to watch all those at one sitting.  ;D

I got an E-mail from this morning from Charles site that the respnse to the effort went very well.  They have ended the drive to help his friend, but have extended the sale through sunday 6/14.  If you want to get those DVDS at half price you have one more week.

Neil's DVDs will have to wait until I finish my DVDs on Photoshop and Alpha5.  This old head can only focus on so much at one time.  Besides, if I'm not mistaken, I ordered a total of 20 CDs from Neil.  That should keep me away from TV until New Year's Day.
