I just removed 6 -8 layer of latex paint on 1x8 fir paneling, floor to ceiling. What type of finish should I use to just slightly enhance the wood. I just try out clear finish Benmate and it is a little dark.
Based on the presence of T&G and the square footage I would use a sash brush for the T&G followed by a suitable pad or roller for the balance. I get good results with Bullseye Amber shellac which can also be tinted with stain if you like. By itself it enhances the grain and goes on easily with no hassles. You obviously will want everything as clean as you can get it and don't want any forced air heating or cooling on until it dries. If you do it this way you shouldn't have to sand in between coats. Two to three coats should be more than sufficient for walls which don't get any "wear". If it is in a sunny room you may need spar varnish for UV protection; this is harder to apply correctly (imho).
John thank you for your answer. I ended up using Timber Pro UV a Green product. We have used it before for our siding with very good results and it works great on furniture and wood paneling.
