Firefox 3

I routinely use both IE7 and firefox, both have their fair share of problems.  Firefox 3 has been somewhat unstable for me (much more so than Firefox 2), dies fairly frequently and its a pig to start, much slower than either Mozilla or IE.

Firefox 3 is a little slower to start for sure.

If you want instantaneous response, chrome is super fast. Run the program so google can not identify you though if you use Chrome. You only need run the program once.

unchrome

Regarding to Google, "Google Chrome is a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer, and easier". Unfortunately, each Google Chrome installation contains a unique ID that allowing identifying its user. Google doesn't make it an easy job to remove this ID.

UnChrome helps you with this task. It replaces your unique ID with Null values so that your browser cannot be identified any longer. The functionality of Google Chrome is not influenced by this. You only need to apply UnChrome once.

If Google Chrome is started now then please close it. Afterwards, please click on the link below to anonymize your Chrome installation.

To get the free Chrome browser:

Chrome Browser download

Then run unchrome. Chrome is minimal but really fast.

Thanks for the encouragement in trying Firefox.  Nick brings up another concern of mine - mining your personal data without your permission for use for purposes you may never know about.  Google provides some great features and services, but in return they want to grab everyone's information and mines it for purposes only Google and its clients know.  They also seem to have little of no respect for copyrights of others.  I don't like their approach to business and thus refrain from using Google as much as I can in favor of other search engines.  Also, earlier this week I was trying to identify sources of granite, marble, etc. to use for the top of a table I am designing to complement the Entertainment Center I recenttly built.  I found about a dozen "hits" in my locale, but when I clicked on a couple of businesses that might have products of interest, and went to the linked Google maps to determine the location of the businesses relative to my home, both times the maps were wrong, in one case off by several miles.

Dave,

If data mining is a concern, you should have switched to Firefox years ago.

Google is notorious for collecting information, but they use it in very specific ways.  Google uses a very simple, yet elegant algorithm to provide you with the best possible search results.  The vast majority of the information they collect is used to help you.
