Finished just in time for Santa to try out that new entrance!

Nice work -

neilc is right - where are the stockings?

Thanks. And I put one last coat of poly on mantel and told her to wait 3 hours before putting stockings up.

I love it. I like the simple look where the wood stands out and not a bunch of add ons.

Question on the color as it is one that is asked for a lot. I am not understanding if you are listing stain colors or wood type? What wood did you start with and what stains did you use on it. I understand if it is a custom color you don't want to share but figured I would ask.

Thanks

I really love the contrast between barn board and the finished cabinets!

The wood is ambrosia maple  And the stain color is min wax classic gray. Rag it in  wipe it off done !! Then wipe on some poly. Sand lightly. One more coat.

Entire mantel took 3 hours to make and install and design. Started on a Friday afternoon at 1:45. Sat on couch at customers house saying what should I do!  Then I said well let's do this. Okay add this. Okay glue up mantel piece as it was 10" deep so had to glue up.  Then said. Okay it needs something so I had the cut off piece from top and said I'll make little blocks. Then roughed them up with the raz. Wiped stain on nailed them up. Done by 5.

Lady came home at 5:15 and was blown away how awesome it was. As she had no idea just that she wanted a rustic mantel. So she got one

No drawings just pure brain power that's how I roll !!!

Kreg, It is great when the customer lets you design in your head and trusts that the page will come out to all of your likings.  I think it came out to perfection, as did your clients.

Thanks guys.  And yes most customers don really know what they want they have an idea or a picture. It's our job to guide them down your road as to what will look great as long as you have a vision of outstanding craftsman and skill and a wide knowledge of how women think (that's the hard part years of studying women to perfect that part) lol. And that you are able to put their thinking with your knowledge and add the wow factor then go for it. However if you are the kind of guy who needs detail drawings ideas then that's a different story

Fortunately I have that vision due to years of learning how to b.s. !!!! Lol

Most of my most unusual and most satisfying jobs when I was a mason contractor were done with NO DRAWN PLANS.  The people wanted something unusual, but sticking within the house layout.

I agree that one must learn what the woman wants, and thru years and years of intensive study, I can honestly say, and without compromise, I still don't have a clue. It has been a lot of fun TRYING to figure it out tho.  ::)
