First Festool delivery issue/question

Just purchased my first Festools and first box arrived, a MIDI I dust extractor.  I ordered it from one of the online places that is suggested quite a bit on here but to me it looks like it has been opened and wanted to check and see what you more experienced people think.  The top has two layers of tape on it and the box holes on each side let me peek in and see the midi which isn’t in a bag or anything for shipping.  Is this normal? I’ve purchased cheaper tools that are usually placed in a bag if there are open holes in the box so it doesn’t get scratched and I wouldn’t think factory seal is two layers of clear tape.  Little disappointed so far.

Absence of a plastic bag may be normal, but double tapes usually means the box has been opened.

Or, playing devil's advocate here, have you opened up the box to see the condition of the vacuum? If it was used, it would be pretty easy to tell. It's no secret that the "gentle hands of brown" aren't that gentle. Maybe they opened up the box to put some more packaging in it? But, like I said, I would first open the vac and inspect its condition.

There are quite a few possibilities. Such as maybe the tape had come loose and the seller added more. Lots of things to speculate.

You have pictures. So I would open it up , check it it out, try it out. If all seems good .............. no problem, if not contact the seller. Pretty much what I do with any package I receive.

Just a update, The Box came in at 8:30pm after the company had closed so couldn't reach out to them until this morning.

For a expensive dust collector I would think festool could have a little better packing although everything was intact. At least put it in a bag as you have big carry holes on both side of the box were things can get in during shipping and possibly scratch it before it arrives. I know it's going to be scratched at some point but like my truck I want to put the first one on there myself.  Found out they had opened the box to throw my free Tee Shirt in which makes sense.

Thanks for the Help Everyone,  First Festool Purchase a new MIDI I and a Domino 700 which will be arriving today.  Feel sufficiently broke.

Happy ending. Nothing wrong with expecting the best, especially you paid top dollars for a tool. A 700 on its way? Sounds like you need a bigger tool budget down the road. [big grin]

Yea there are a few other things I've seen I wouldn't mind having and need to grab the Seneca adapter and need to grab the 700 Breakdown Hardware as well.  I'm sure wife is going to be expecting some new things soon.

That looks pretty much the usual factory packaging from Festool, apart from double tape.
I have mentioned a few times I’m not impressed with the factory packaging, and my first Kapex arrived quite badly smashed up. To be fair to Festool though, they aren’t alone in the flimsy minimal packaging.
A while back I bought a Makita plunge saw, Makita extractor, a case of Makita batteries and a twin bank chargers, and the only thing in tact was the extractor, the rest was smashed to pieces, and had to be exchanged, and with the understanding that extra internal packaging would be used, otherwise a refund.

The second batch was extra packed, and despite being handled badly was fine.

The packaging by these companies seems adequate at best, when presented to a face to face over the counter customer. When shipping involves any kind of courier intervention, the packaging is not sufficient.
I have bought Mafell online, and it’s always been very well packed, I don’t know if that’s thanks to Mafell or the actual dealer though?

Some tools that come in Systainers, are loose inside, and free to bounce around inside whilst in transit.

It has to be said though, I own a few Festool extractors, they have all come in cardboard boxes, just like the poster here shows, and just a piece of polythene laying on top of them, and they have all been perfect when unboxed.

Yea I thought the same thing that the packaging looks like it's fine for Brick and Mortar stores were everything probably comes in on a pallet but sure doesn't look like it was built to ship.  My Domino 700 just came in and it was just slid down in a box that was slightly bigger with one layer of bubble wrap across the top of it.

At least they put bubble wrap in there!  I have ordered accessories from Amazon a couple times - they don't use bubble wrap.  Just drop the systainer in whatever size box and call it good.

Any time I order a tool I purchase from one of the recommended shops on here.  Slightly bigger box with bubble wrap to keep it from shifting around is pretty standard.  The systainers are pretty durable and the tools are secure in there with the foam blocks.
I get where you're coming from - especially as your first Festool purchase.  It's a lot to spend on a tool.
However, after like the 4th or 5th purchase (or 10th...) they won't seem as expensive.

Which country?

I think it looks normal.

Was myself not impressed how stuff was delivered, systainer just in a box without any protection (box from dealer that is, no protection from FT). Apparently a bit dealer depended.

For a high-end tool company, you would expect better. I do think that, no matter what, they are tools and will end up having scuffs and scratches.

Hehehe, there is some truth in what he says.  I'm not sure that will make you feel better though!    [tongue]

When I got my CT26 earlier this year, it arrived in a plastic bag inside a box. One side was scratched a bit, but I didn't mind as Acme Tools was getting rid of Festool vacs for some reason and had CT26 on a nice discount.

My Midi I came with that box inside of another box.  I would have preferred how yours came.  We use too much packaging IMO.  But it would be a solid choice to tape over the box handle holes.

I think it’s the vendors choice. Meaning i think the OP got the same pkg straight from Festool like you would get if ya went to a B&M.

When ya bought something from Bob Marino it came bomb proof. It could survive a nuke war.

Bob had his shipping house add the extra pkg.  sure it was a lot over packed in some cases, but he never had a complaint about something being damaged in shipment even if the outside box looked like it was used in a UK football match

“I think it’s the vendors choice.”

Ditto.  Bought a new Metabo grinder and the vendor simply wrapped some shrink wrap around the plastic case’s latches and stuck the shipping labels on (onto some tape so I could peel most of them off). Didn’t like that at all but luckily the case wasn’t even scratched and the tool was perfect.
