I drank the Koolaid and ordered a TS 55 and a CT 36 from Bob Marino and they showed up on my doorstop today.  Looking forward to cutting my first piece of ply this weekend.  And as proof that it did happen, here's a pic from inside my messy garage/shop.

Nice. Now hide your credit card because after you use your new tools you will be wanting more.

Cool. Did you order just one rail? It's not sufficient...

Yeah, you'll want another rail if you're going to be cutting ply.  Nice score all the same. [thumbs up]

What size track should I consider next?  I was thinking another 55" would give me 110" joined together but is that long enough to rip a full sheet of ply?

Hi,

I am sure you will get plenty of advice on the rail  [smile]

Yes, two 55" joined is long enough.  However if you have the room get a 75" for the second rail. It will give you extra length for cross cuts if you need it, as well as in between length options so that you won't have to maneuver the two joined for cuts that need more than the 55" but less than 130". Being able to go to 130" is occasionally handy for ripping long boards too.

Personally I prefer not to have to join and take apart the rails. It is not hard to do and can be done accurately by several methods. I just find it a pain to switch all the time. So I have the 118" rail for long cuts.  The 106" will suffice for 8' cuts but the 118" makes positioning a bit easier.

If you don't want to go with the 106" or 118" right away, then still get the 75". It will still be good to have even if you get a 106" or 118" later on.

Oh, and don't forget to get two rail connectors.

I agree with Jeff, while two rails is ok, having the combo of a 55" and a 106" or 118" is just easier and faster. I had bought a second 55" with my TS 55 and after doing a "dry fit" decided I didn't want to hassle with piecing the two 55's and exchanged one for the 106". Now I am much more happy  [big grin]

No one has mentioned the lr-32 system it might be worth considering a rail with holes.

You'll need another 55 or 75 and the connectors.

In your honor:

Festool Brothers,

Can we have a moment of silence for brother Jeff.

He has started down the green path un the un dead and maybe unwed.

Soon like the rest of us, he will be buy more and more, soon his credit card will be maxed then a 2nd credit card and on and on.

He'll lose his job because he'll be spending more time on this site and the festool sites and in his shop working, then the job will become 2nd..

So lets bow our heads in a moment of slience...

Thats just the begining, wait til you rush home or take off work to get home before the misses so ya can sneak the pkg into the shop before she sees it..
Its a dark green path ya entered into,

Now after you get the extra rail, you'll be lusting after a MFT, then the clamps, essentails and then the grand daddy the Kapex..Its a long lonely dark road you have entered

There is a light at the end of the Festool tunnel- I know because I am there. After my Festool odyssey began a few years ago, I now have all the Festools that I want and that I think I need. They are so well-built, tool replacement is not an issue for years to come, so all I buy are the odd consumable item now and then such as dominoes or vac bags or sandpaper.

Unfortunately, just as I was fully stocked with Festool, I was introduced to Lie-Nielsen...

Once you're tired out of Lie Neilsen I'd like to introduce you the Canadian Sauer & Stainer range of planes.

I've never done anything like that...Nor have I had tools shipped directly to the jobsite to avoid having to come home before she does either...Never happened.

P.S, We joke about it, but it's true.  You will have a tough time not being able to justify the expense.  Last year I was chuckling inwardly about all these guys with their sysports (The Wayne's World quote:  I don't have A gun, let alone many guns to necessitate A gun rack.   Kept coming to mind. All I had was a ts55.  Now I have a stack of systainers in my garage and I'm thinking I need to build one!

Enjoy it!
