So, I did a lot of simple cuts with my new Kapex last week to check alignment, table and lasers. All set with virtually no adjustments needed. Perfect!

Brought the Kapex up the house in Georgia where I have a long honey-do list of repairs to complete...one of which is a new Fence gate to replace a rotting and rusted one. Golden opportunity to use the Kapex!  Excellent!

All the vertical 1x4 slats cut to size and Kapex running through them like butter! Woohoo!

Next the 2x4 primary frame cuts. Three lengths all just peachy! Fantastic!

Time to miter the cross brace 2x4. Measured the length and angles four times to be absolutely sure. Pencil lines drawn and first cut needs a 52 degree miter. Angle set, board clamped, laser dead on line, and cut. What the heck is that noise??? [scared] That sure don't sound like wood! [eek]  Oh....you're supposed to spread the fence for deep miters!!!! [doh]  Oops!  Nice mitered edge on my left fence now. [crying]  Oh well....didn't hurt the blade, just my ego. PRICELESS!!!  [big grin]

DO love my Kapex. [drooling]

Cheers,

Frank

Did the same thing just the other day without even thinking about it... luckily I only just nicked it.

Look on the bright side Frank, Now it actually "does" look like you use your tools!    ;D

I did the same thing a couple of weeks ago. Saw still works great.

Frank - good job on making that Kapex your own!  Consider it customized and marked.

Thanks for the support guys! [smile]

I might also mention that this was the first time I used my DF 500 Domino. Watched a couple of really good YouTube videos to make sure I understood everything, and then some test cuts in an offcut 2x4 and voila!  Perfect joint in the fence gate frame.  Couldn't be happier, except that it was a nightmare figuring out how to clamp the frame. No prob...worked it out. Used Sipo 8x50 Dominos.

Shot some pins with my Grex though the dominos to secure even further, and ready for the pickets in the morning.

Next up, two outdoor 4 and 5 step patio stairs to replace rotting wood. Planters after that. Busy! [big grin]

Cheers,

Frank

And if you check out my YouTube channel (thanks for following by the way) you will find a way to cut beautiful stringers for those stairs if you have Qwas Rail Dogs  [poke] with you.

Frank, if you're going to brag about cutting your fence you have to post a pic, or it didn't happen. [tongue]

Not very exciting...or artistic:

Gate frame ready for slats
[attachimg=1]

Fence Gate Frame Joint. Used Kapex,  DF 500 with Sipo dominos, and 23g pins. Surface flattened flush with RAS 115.  (2x4's were rough....VERY rough)

Next will be hardware and pickets, and attached to existing fence.

Cheers,
Frank

Frank,

Did you consider using a spacer block between the pickets to keep them equally spaced and parallel?  (Not sure what your design considerations were.)  I've been trying to get in the habit of not measuring if I don't have to, but instead use blocks, story sticks, etc. whenever I can.

Regards,
Brian

For this build, esthetics were at the bottom of the list. Functionality was top priority.

The end pickets were the critical placement, and the rest were just eyeballed. If I was going for a super quality build, then YES, I would have used spacers or a story stick.  In this case, it is all about keeping the dog inside the fence, and making it easier for my pool guy, pest controller, and my wife to get in and out! [big grin]

This is what it is replacing:

After the gate, there are about 25 pickets in various locations that have to be swapped as well.  Kapex and Carvex really come in handy for those! [tongue]

Cheers,
Frank

before you call ekat to replace your nicked kapex miter saw fence part, it might be worth your while to check first if the same part from your new 139 miter saw you got on order will fit on the kapex.  both companies claim that they're "obsessed with quality", so if the design is compatible, you'll be good to go.
