Hi,

I was just thinking about a feature on another forum I visit....  it would be more useful than the original post date. In addition to the ability to go to the Last Post, there is also the Ability to go to the First Unread Post in a thread. That way you get immediatly to the spot you last looked at without any scrolling or page changing.

"Seth--

That's the way "Show unread posts since last visit" works for me now.

Ned"

Ned,

When I click that option it brings up a page of the threads (not posts) that have new posts since my last visit. I am talking about a feature that would have a spot in the thread subject column, much like the Last Post feature, that would take you directly to the first post in a thread that you have not read yet.
EX- say a thread has 50 posts, you have read up to number 22 the last time you checked in three days ago.  The current options are start at the beggining of the thread and look through until you find where you left off. Or go to the last post of the thread and look through backwards until you find where you left off.  I would like to be able to click an option that takes you directly to where you left off.

BTW I started this as a new topic from the Original Post Date thread.

Hi Matthew,

It seems that clicking the little  green "new" indicator does the same thing as clicking the "last post" indicator.  How about making the "new" indicator do what I suggested and take the user to the first unread post?

Seth,

That is what it does now, at least for me!

The feature: "Show unread posts since last visit" quit working on the  one day...
now it only works if I am currently on FOG...

The feature: "Preview (of a Post)" only shows part of the first line...

I've fiddled with my settings in Profile but can't seem to get both of these features fully functional.

Suggestions...

Hmmm,  is Matthew playing tricks on me here? :)    I am sure I have used that before and it didn't do that. ???    Has it always done this?    If soo whyyy didn't the great and mighty oversear of the FOG enlighten me to such  when I first proposed the topic / idea to him  some days ago, hmmmm....?  ??? :)

The "show unread posts" usually doesn't work correctly for me.  Does sometimes, but not usually.

The "new" button has always worked by going to the first unread post for me.  Nothing has changed before or during this thread, again, for me.

I haven't changed any of these functions.  However, there does seem to be some confusion about the way they work.

I'd like to get to the bottom of these reports that the various post-display features do not work for some people, since these are basic features of SMF software.  Technically, it's dubious that these features work for some people and not for others; Corwin's statement that the features work "sometimes, but not usually" is puzzling.  Generally, computers don't have moods, and they don't play favorites.  In these situations, there's usually something else going on.

If you want to keep up on new activity, the best and most pleasant way to do it is to browse the forum, entering any boards that have an illuminated "F" indicator.  Once you're inside a board, look for those little green "new" indicators I mentioned in this post.  Click on the topics with the "new" indicator and, well...you'll see what's new!

This is most likely a cookie issue, or some other issue on my end.  This feature has worked 100% on another board, but that board uses other software.

This is the way I navigate this board on a daily basis.
