I have an old porcelain tub that needs some help.  Before attempting a re-porcelain I thought I could use my new 5 inch sander on this job.  Which abrasives should I be using and would I need any rubbing compound?  It seems like there are some abrasives that came with the sander that would be used for sanding a finish that I should focus on.

I've used Zaino brand, "Fusion Dual Action" cleaner and swirl remover with good results.  I use and IR pneumatic buffer with a foam cutting pad, but you should get similar results using your Rotex.  It won't cut very deep but will get off all grim and light scratches and scuffs.  I've done similar things with 3M cutting and polishing compounds too which you can pick up at many auto parts stores.
