flattening walnut slabs

Is that a Festool planer you are using? If so, I would be interested to know how well you are able to flatten the surface.

Beautiful wood! Could make nice ends to a table.

The plan was and is still open ended. I was thinking about matching end tables or just mounting them on the wall.  I have been working 12+ hours a day 7 days a week for the last well I took 2 days off this year. Finally got caught up on paying work and decided to do something other than running moulding or building cabinet boxes.

Was hoping to finish this up before the next big job but no such luck picked up some arched moulding work yesterday so its back on hold. Will post some more pics when I get time to work on them.

Yes it is a Festool HL 850, works pretty well for flattening them out. Use a straight edge and keep looking for high spots.  Kind of thinking about getting one of the 6 3/4 or 12 inch Makitas to speed things up.

Can't wait to see more!

Here is an old thread that some might find interesting or helpful also:  http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-tools-accessories/from-rough-sawn-to-workable-ts75-and-850-power-plane/

Man that's some good stuff in that thread - I sure miss Per's posts.  Thanks for bringing this thread back out of hiding Peter as I've got something to do similarly with a pine slab soon... wishing I had walnut like many of you seem to be working with lately.

Looking forward to what you come up with Zee.

Thank you for the information. The 850 is obviously a super machine...I think it needs to be reviewed...hint, hint!

This was the first time  of using it like a plane. I pretty much use it with the sculpted heads. I may shave the odd board with it but it seems to make a good plane. A bit narrow, May think im going to keep my eyes open for a used 12inch makita.
